Here's a clip from my new song, "Guillotine," that I've been working on. I wrote it in response to watching the ongoing and escalating degradation of our society by the elite, oligarchs, and other selfish hypocrites that constantly get away with the absolute worst, all on the backs of the rest of us.
Thanks to Day & Dream's Peter Frizzante for lending some fine guitar work to this and the b-side track!
I'm pretty sure this will be the next thing I release, sometime in the next handful of weeks, so follow theJLM wherever you get music and watch out for an official announcement soon.

Sooooo.... I've been working on a lot of music over here. The main album I've been carefully cobbling together is getting closer to being ready, so I hope to have that out later this year. In the meantime, I've also been working on another single that is inspired by the BS happening in the world right now, and (oops!) I somehow happened to also put together a more ambient/IDM collection of songs that is basically ready to release. So I'm trying to figure out when and how to release the ambient/IDM stuff. This video is a preview of the lead track off of that and here's some info about all the tracks:
1. Stars Are Not Enough (10:18)
2. Remnants + Reconstructions (5:56)
3. Return Trip (10:06)
4. Transformer (7:46)
5. The Line Through the Night is Long and Bright (18:52)
Anybody interested in hearing any of this? Get in touch and I'll share a link...

OUT NOW! SAM014/TRR060: 'Attempted Cultural Figure' (Maxi-Single) by theJLM
Now available on Bandcamp and streaming platforms. Music videos now out on YouTube.
Stereoactive Media presents the 14th official entry in its music catalog, co-released with Totally Real Records – a maxi-single called Attempted Cultural Figure by theJLM. Written and produced in just the last few months, the title track tells the story of someone trying to build themselves into a successful online personality by following a path of least resistance: a right-wing grift. Written in the wake of a certain high profile killing, the song is presented in three different forms – the original version; a radio edit, and a nearly twelve minute version that expands the sonic landscape of the original by extending the middle section of the song and building off the soundbite coda of the original into a crescendoing wall of sound that includes sounds of war along with a segment of Rudyard Kipling's poem, "Boots."
In addition to those three variations on the title track, there is also a b-side called "Comes a Time" that serves as a call to action to face down the rising darkness and creeping authoritarianism, fascism, and all the other -isms in the world.
The full maxi-single is available to buy on Bandcamp. And today happens to be Bandcamp Friday, when artists get a larger cut of the purchase price paid for any of their music, so it's a great day to help further support this project, and the projects of other artists on Bandcamp.
The maxi-single is also available on Soundcloud, Apple Music, Spotify (for now, at least), and YouTube Music:
You can also watch the karaoke-style music video for "Attempted Cultural Figure" and a video for "Comes a Time" on YouTube.
Special thanks to @fleetwoodmaxgoransson and @ilithiosnyc for some invaluable notes while I was working on these songs. And thanks to @hulahoopz , @jpkahnt , @yrface , and @subinev for their encouragement and support!

I wasn't online much on Mother's Day (or yesterday) because we were busy celebrating @hulahoopz in real life, but here's a clip from the song Ro and I made for her.

I'm lucky to be doing this whole thing with a couple of wonderful people 😊
Proud to be one of the founding artists of the @subvertworld co-op, which officially launches today! I first heard about them as Bandcamp began changing hands and fear of that once beloved site becoming less and less artist friendly began surfacing. and while Bandcamp is still standing, it's sad that its future seems to be continually at risk of falling apart.
Subvert's stated goal, as I understand it, is to be always artist-first in their development as a platform for indie artists and that's something we vitally need right now! So whether you're an artist or just someone who values artists, I recommend checking it out!
I'll post the link to my artist page in stories and will be adding it to my website, etc, today.
Here's a teaser of the lyrics for my upcoming single, "Guillotine," which is about pushing back on the elite, the oligarchs, and their enablers, who are continually degrading our society.
"Guillotine" and its b-side, "Time doesn't exist, yet it controls us anyway." are out on 5/20 -- preorder is now live on Bandcamp.

The feeling of gravity increasing as you begin to spin in circles, faster and faster, until you can hardly stand it. Your skin flattens against your bones and muscle. Your back presses against the surface behind you. And while there is certainly discomfort, your adrenaline takes over as you melt into the ever-quickening rotation of it all, and a certain kind of thrill about the loss of control takes over.
Might end up calling this one "Gravitron," but I'm not sure yet.

Happy 40th to @festivalinternational from a 4 year old and almost 40 year old! I've personally been going since I was 9 years old and will keep going back as often as I can for as long as I can 🎆🎉
On this Trans Day of Visibility, I want to say 3 things:
1. I am very proud to work on a podcast called When We See Each Other that features mainly queer and/or BIPOC artists–many of them Trans and/or NB. Available anywhere you get podcasts!
One of my favorite things about working on the show is hearing my co-producer and host, Nikkie, have moments with folks where they're able to speak as two people going through unique yet often parallel journeys. I like to think, and truly hope, that we offer a kind of refuge for those sorts of chats.
2. F*CK THE SUPREME COURT!
3. When it comes to transphobes, David Lynch put it well: "Fix Your Hearts or Die."
