Three of my top Italian Disco 45s! Whenever I play these I feel immediately transported to a crowded Italian discotheque in 1979, even if I don’t quite understand all the words. Gloria Piedimonte - Uno (1978) Marina Fabbri - Metamorfosi (1979) Corena - Far L’Amore (1979)

Three Italian slow burners that lean closer to pop than disco. I feel like “Immagini” might be a little under-the-radar but some of my Italian friends can chime in here. This track gives me chills every time! This one was hard to edit because all three build slowly, and you really need to listen to the songs in their entirety to get the payoff. Breathy vocals and sweeping strings all the way through. Angela - “Angela È Cosi” (1979) Miù Magelli- “ Immagin” (1980) Rosanna Fratello - “Duello” (1982)

Three recent releases from Irma Records! The label helped shape Italian deep house, but the catalog runs deep with jazz-funk, disco, soul, funk, boogie, Balearic, and more. Erin Collective “Microcosmo” From the compilation “Mondo Groove,” a survey of Italy’s current funk, jazz funk and boogie scene. The Soultrend Orchestra & Sweet Candies “Dance A Little Bit Closer” From “Unexpected Vibes” A vocal trio assembled by producer Papik, blending retro disco and Philly soul through a mix of covers and original songs. Don Carlos “Mediterranean Sunset (House Mix)” Don Carlos has released on Irma since the label’s early years and helped define the warmer, jazz-influenced side of Italian house mustic. Thank you @irmarecordsit for sending these over!

Today I’ve got some modern Italo heat from @bubsmusicc ! This is a brand new release on @filter.phaser from France. 5 club-ready tracks on this one that work in a wide variety of sets. Featured here: “Feel Alive” is a euphoric Italo banger with some big tension and release. “Astro Nation” ft. @vanellomusic is a modern take on HiNRG and probably my favorite of the release. “Feel Alive” Higher & Higher remix by @closeproximity__ is a progressive house leaning mix of the title track that I’m sure will be a major festival hit this summer. Thanks @bubsmusicc for sending this over! Go cop from @filter.phaser bandcamp

Playing records tonight 8-11 pm @xo.hifi ! Here’s a peek at what is in the bag for RIVAGE OBSCUR; a night of downtempo, AOR, Balearic, and soft disco. Everything from floaty private-press soft rock, to sax-driven French chanson that makes you feel a bit dirty even though you didn’t understand a word of the lyrics, vocal jazz divas that never made it out of the lounge of the Marriott out by the airport, and even a bit of downtempo groove that you’re pretty sure sampled something off a “Pure Moods” CD.

Three midtempo Italian disco cuts that lean into a funky groove with a bit of sexy sleaze. Marie Laure Sachs “Shiver” (1978) - Written by a team that includes Cristiano Malgioglio, so you know it;s a heater. I love the bassline towards the end of the track. Suan “Flash” (1977) - Disco-funk with a lounge and soundtrack edge, and Pino Presti on the arrangement doing some heavy lifting. Jenny Nevasco “Sweet Love” (1977) - Jazzy-disco-funk with a slightly psychedelic hint, and that flute line 🤌

Bolero (1984) by Raffaella Carrà is a polished Italian pop album that sees her go towards a more Italo-disco direction with bright synths and tight studio orchestration while retaining her signature theatrical vocal delivery. This one’s definitely in the bag for @nowthatswhaticallitalodisco in SF on March 20th!

Fresh freestyle pickups in three different lanes. Laurie Miller “Parallels” is the glossy one: Laurie was one of the original members of Exposé. This synth-pop leaning cut was produced by Ish, known for working with Company B, Noel, Shana and many more (as well as his solo work of course). April “Right On Time” is the club-leaning one, released on freestyle powerhouse label Metropolitan. Precious “Let Me Know” is on the rawer, homemade end of the spectrum.
