It’s been almost two weeks and I’m still struggling to write this, but on Easter Sunday we very suddenly lost our little buddy, Albie. We spent the day in the ER with him for what turned out to be a liver lobe torsion, and he passed away there as they attempted to treat him. It was completely shocking and we are both absolutely devastated by the loss. He had just turned five and was such a happy and healthy boy until this injury. He was truly the sweetest little creature I have ever met; he never stopped getting overwhelmed with excitement when we’d come into the room, always hurling himself around, always determined to sit on our feet, even if we were actively walking. When he was a baby especially he always wanted to cuddle, sometimes sleeping on my chest with his nose pressed against mine. He brought so much love and joy, as well as plenty of mischief into our lives. Five years was not nearly enough time to spend with him, but we are eternally grateful for every moment we had. He was our beloved little buddy, and we will love him and miss him forever.
The work continues. The amorphous takes shape.

Sometimes writing is just sitting in the coffee shop for three weekends in a row and wrestling with your synopsis like Jacob wrestled the angel. (We got there in the end, folks. Mostly. We’re really close.)

Meluë’s Brood is your typical ‘Jonah’ meets Norse-flavored cosmic folk horror fantasy tale. It’s my longest completed work to date, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t immensely proud of it. I’m working on releasing it in both print and ebook formats sometime this year, so stay tuned!
