The brand new single “Suck My Disco” combines electro and disco, with thought provoking lyrics that speak to the societal love of Black Music and the societal disregard of Black lives, set to a 4/4 beat.
Centered around an acid bass line, and producer Taylor Bense's chugging hi-hats and Caribbean percussions, the track melds a slinky modern soca with a dark 1980s New York punk funk vibe.
The "Suck My Disco" anthem will be heard across clubs this summer and beyond, and dancers will indeed "sweat" to it, as The Illustrious Blacks chant closing out the track. You may see many wearing their "Suck My Disco" t-shirt too, as a ubiquitous expression of dancefloor freedom.
Yet listen closely to the ingenious verses of
@manchildblack and
@monstahblack , delivered in almost subliminally detached manner, to truly get the message of this track - lines like: "Raving to techno while burning down my house. Boogie to Afrobeats, but when u see me, cross the street. U dance to my rhythm, don’t want my blues." express the exploitation of Black music and Blackness without considering the humanity of the people that produce it.
The single comes with DJ Minx's remix of "Suck My Disco" which goes deep, thoroughly rinsing the track in acid and techno, with rolling congas and a throbbing 4 on the floor pulse. Minx's remix is the perfect platform for The Illustrious Blacks to entice you to hear the story of "Suck My Disco" - as they proclaim on the track, "You gotta go deeper".
