You won’t find a better post-finish treat anywhere in the world. Just saying 🌴
A malasada is a Portuguese-style doughnut, popular in Hawaiʻi — golden, fluffy, and rolled in sugar.
At the Hapalua, they’re made fresh right there in the finish area, ready for you after you cross the line.
Half marathon or Iki, fast or slow — everyone earns their malasada
After an incredible day at the Boston Marathon, there are two names that we have to highlight!
A massive congratulations to past @thehapalua Half Marathon winner, Sharon Lokedi (@shazrine ) who won the Boston Marathon in a blistering time of 02:18:51!
Another shoutout goes to our reigning JAL Honolulu Marathon champion, Calli Hauger-Thackery (@callirianne ) who ran an incredible time of 02:43:58 whilst being 22 weeks pregnant!
An amazing display by both athletes who we’re proud to have as our alumni! 💪
2027 Hapalua Half Marathon registration is now open 🌺
This is our spring race in Honolulu on April 11, 2027, separate from the Honolulu Marathon Weekend, and features both Hawaii’s Half Marathon and the Hapalua Iki (8.3 miles). The Iki made its debut at the 2026 event, offering a flatter option that follows the same opening miles before finishing at Kapi‘olani Park.
Both distances start in Waikīkī and share the same early course, with a strong race-day atmosphere from start to finish.
Set yourself up for spring in Hawai’i 👟🌺
Run the King’s Runner 10K in March, then step up to either the Hapalua Half Marathon or the Hapalua IKI (8.3 miles). Bundle both events and save on your entry.
Priority entry pricing ends on Tuesday, April 21 at 11:59PM, so sign up quick. Once this price is gone, it won’t be back!
The Hapalua Invitational Team Challenge delivered on Sunday 👟🌺
This is the elite team competition at The Hapalua, with a $5,000 prize purse, bringing together top local runners from across Hawai‘i for a unique race within the race.
Based on a classic cross-country scoring format, all 28 runners race together, with points awarded based on finishing position. Each team counts their top 12 finishers, while places 13 and 14 are displaced - not scoring, but still able to take points off the board. Lowest total score wins.
And this one was close.
Team Duke Statue edged it with a score of 153 to Team Diamond Head’s 149, but the result could easily have gone the other way. If all 14 runners had counted, it would have come down to the final athletes across the line - and the win would have gone to Team Diamond Head!
At the front, Amanuel Mesel (Team Duke Statue) took the overall win in 1:04:17, setting the tone early. Right behind him, Tesfu Tewelde (Team Diamond Head) ran 1:04:30 for second, leading a strong response from the Diamond Head side.
Depth made the difference. Diamond Head stacked the early places with Kuikaika Kaahanui (3rd), Aaron Bennett (5th), and Jeremy Morgan (6th), with Melissa Berry and Macy Putman leading the way on the women’s side.
Team Duke Statue answered with consistency across the board - Benjamin Payne (4th), Samantha McClintock (7th), Jay Dela Cruz (9th), and a tight pack through the middle, with strong runs from Marissa Kunsch and Emily Reynolds helping keep their score low when it mattered most.
Led by their pro captains:
Team Duke Statue - Amanuel Mesel & Samantha McClintock
Team Diamond Head - Tesfu Tewelde & Melissa Berry
Congratulations to both teams for being part of such an exciting and closely fought race 🌺
