Last year, the Trash Free Gulf campaign presented by H-E-B's Our Texas, Our Future brought out more than 2,100 volunteers across the state, removing over 34,000 pounds of trash from our waterways before it could reach the Gulf. That’s real impact you can see, and a powerful reminder of what’s possible when communities show up.
In 2026, we’re building on that momentum, with more cleanups, more partners, and even greater impact for our bays, beaches, and rivers. Join us as we continue turning small actions into a Texas-sized movement and register for a cleanup near you here at the link in our bio!
The Trash Free Gulf Campaign unites volunteers across Texas' watersheds to remove litter from both the Gulf’s coastline and the inland waters that feed it. By cleaning up rivers, streams, bays, and estuaries, we help protect marine life and improve water quality throughout the entire system. Each cleanup reduces pollution, prevents trash from reaching sensitive habitats, and supports the health of our coastal communities.
Volunteers play a critical role in keeping our waters clean and raising awareness about the impacts of litter. Whether you join an existing cleanup or start your own, every effort makes a difference.

The Gulf Trust, alongside a coalition of conservation organizations and community stakeholders, is raising concerns over a proposed wastewater discharge permit renewal that could impact San Antonio Bay, Matagorda Bay, and the Gulf. The amended permit application, submitted for Dow’s Seadrift facility, includes requests to increase discharge volumes and modify limits on chemicals and floating solids—changes that could pose risks to coastal ecosystems, wildlife, and the communities that depend on these waters.
In a joint letter and press release, partners are urging Dow and Union Carbide to work with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to hold a public meeting within 45 days or withdraw the application, emphasizing the importance of transparency and public input in decisions that could affect the long-term health of the Texas coast.

The Gulf Trust is excited to welcome the Trash Free Gulf Campaign back for a second year!
The Trash Free Gulf campaign is presented by H-E-B’s Our Texas, Our Future. In May 2026, we will collaborate with partners across Texas to organize litter cleanups in every major watershed and along the coastline. We can turn the tide together by keeping our local waters clean — for Texas and beyond. Through our collective efforts at home, we can ensure our waterways thrive and create a lasting impact downstream.
