POPTIC - CubaDupa Experience - FREE Entry, 81 Cuba St (Old Area 51) It’s just one more sleep until @cubadupa and Wellington is PUMPED! 100,000+ will flood into Cuba Street and its surrounding streets, a heady mix of stage music, street performers, colour and divine food - it’s peak Wellington. There’ll be some outstanding experiences you can’t miss and today we’re featuring renowned Wellington artist, @tim_ridley_christie . With his very special POPTIC - Optical Art Experience - Tim is taking over 81 Cuba Street (the old Area 51 on the corner of Cuba and Dixon Streets). And the best bit - it’s completely FREE for everyone to experience. Known for his bold fusion of pop art and geometric abstraction, Tim is presenting a full-spectrum visual feast, pulling together paintings, lightworks, weavings and digital pieces that play with perception and pull you into that delicious space between illusion and reality. Upstairs you can find Nowadeus, which Tim has created with animator Delainy Jamahl @thegrid.artspace , composer Tom McLeod @tommcleodmusic and sound designer Mike Hodgson. This epic work features eight imagined gods reflecting the modern obsessions we orbit daily. We’ve seen it and it’s immersive, hypnotic and a little surreal. You can sit, stand or wander, but either way, you’ll feel it - and you’ll absolutely love the immersive experience. Open Saturday 11am to 9pm and Sunday 11am to 6pm, with FREE entry, POPTIC and Nowadeus is peak CubaDupa energy. It’s unexpected, boundary-pushing and unforgettable. Gallery: Tim Christie Popup Gallery Exhibition: POPTIC - An Optical Art Experience Venue: 81 Cuba St (old Area 51 store) Times for CubaDupa: ✨ Saturday 11am-9pm ✨ Sunday 11am-6pm.

‘In te reo Māori the main kupu, the main word, for water is Wai which explains all bodies of water from the oceans to the rivers, the lakes and freshwater. What’s key in te ao Māori is the word Wairua which translates as two bodies of water, Wairua in essence is also the spirit, our soul that comes into our bodies.’ 🌊 @matiuhamuera on the deep meaning of water. Destination Earth premiered in Aotearoa in Wellington in collaboration with @atamiradancecompany , Aotearoa’s leading platform for Māori contemporary dance. A wonderful and unique moment of connection with Wellington audiences, and collaboration with Atamira movement artists embodying slowness and the quiet strength of oceanic flows. 🤍 Thanks @biancahyslop for the trust! Delainy Jamahl - Visual artist & creative technologist - is my wonderful guest in episode 157 of the @creativematterspodcast Working at the intersection of art and technology, Delainy Jamahl’s art practice focuses on data as the central narrative. He creates immersive and interactive installations that explore and visualise, transforming complex information into engaging visual experiences. It was lovely to meet Delainy and to speak with a creative technology artist - the first of his kind on the podcast! In this episode we explore the creative and technical routes he took and the great influence an artist mentor had on him that lead him to consider channelling his skills into an art practice. We discuss in detail two of Delainy’s stunning works: Sight Unseen - which is a unique photographic dataset of infrared and colour infrared images of Wellington, continuing his exploration of visualising the invisible and revealing the beauty of the unseen. Rivers of Wind, a mesmerising immersive digital artwork, uses 8 years of historic weather data from the Wellington Airport weather station to produce its flowing visuals. We get into the technical side of immersive video and sound work, which although new to me I actually found super interesting. Delainy shares the feelings he is trying to express and create with the work, how people react to it, the ways he communicates the ideas behind his work and his creative process. We talk about a collaboration Nowadeus with NZ artist Tim Christie, who has also been on the podcast, and other plans he has for collaborative projects and spaces. Delainey is the owner & director at Artificial Imagination and the co founder of The Grid, which produce captivating digital art experiences, collaborating with artists to challenge the boundaries of imagination. @thegrid.artspace @tim_ridley_christie #creativematterspodcast
