The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity is an international agreement adopted in 1992 during the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro whose main goal is to protect the world’s biodiversity: the variety of plants, animals, microorganisms, and ecosystems on Earth. The Convention has three main objectives: Conservation of biological diversity: protecting ecosystems, wildlife, and natural habitats. Sustainable use of biodiversity: using natural resources responsibly so future generations can also benefit. Fair and equitable sharing of benefits: ensuring countries and communities fairly benefit from the use of genetic resources, such as medicinal plants or agricultural products.

Under the project, "Tailor Rwanda’s youth and children's active engagement in climate change advocacy" financially supported by Trocaire-Rwanda, last week we visited ARCOS Agroforestry livelihood project sites with students from GS Mutara, GS Rusasa and Kajevuba Parents Initiative Irembo school environmental clubs. This gave them an opportunity to link the knowledge and information received with practical exposure to climate action projects being implemented within their own district. @trocaireonline @rema_rwanda @environmentrw

The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) was established in 1994 to protect and restore our land and ensure a safer, just and more sustainable future. It is the only legally binding framework set up to address desertification and the effects of drought.

Our CEO @ineza_umuhoza attended the 8th Board Meeting of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) in Livingstone, Zambia 🇿🇲 B8 delivered important progress toward making the Fund work in practice, not just on paper. Some key updates include: 🌍 The Country Support System (CSS) was approved with USD 7.5 million annually, with support of up to USD 250,000 per country, and capacity for 30 countries each year. 📅 2027 Board meeting dates were confirmed, helping maintain momentum on urgent decisions. 💰 Progress was made toward a Resource Mobilisation Strategy to be considered at B9 in July—critical to ensuring the Fund is properly capitalised. 📊 More work remains on the Results Measurement Framework to ensure impact is tracked fairly and effectively. 🤝 Civil society voices once again reminded the Board that this process must stay rooted in justice, equity, and the lived realities of frontline communities. The process is moving—but communities facing climate impacts cannot wait. B9 in July must deliver faster access, stronger ambition, and finance at the scale of the crisis.

🌍March 30th marks the International Day of Zero Waste. Did you know that over 1 billion tones of food are wasted globally every year? This contributes to nearly 8-10% of annual global greenhouse gas emissions. While food is being wasted, millions of people around the world are still going hungry. 🍽️ Next time you prepare your plate, take only what you need. ♻️ Waste less. Value more. Act now. #ZeroWasteDay #FoodWaste #Sustainability #ClimateAction #ActNow

🌳 Forests are essential to life on Earth. They cover about 31% of the world’s land, yet we continue to lose around 10 million hectares every year due to deforestation. Forests absorb carbon, protect biodiversity, and sustain millions of livelihoods. Their loss is not just an environmental issue — it’s a global crisis. On this International Day of Forests, let’s act, raise awareness, and commit to protecting what protects us. No forests. No future. #InternationalDayOfForests #ForestsMatter #ClimateAction #sustainability
