The Gov Cup presents 🥁🥁 The Bag Edition: where we take you behind the scenes with Alyssa (Owner), and Tobias (graphic designer - as well as a legendary DJ, keyboardist, and bassist), on what inspired the design of our new retail coffee bags.
Alyssa has been in ownership of The Governor’s Cup Coffee Roasters since December of 2010. As Tobias mentions here, “there are pieces of her in it, in every part.” This couldn’t be more true. To walk into The Gov Cup, is to experience the soul of Alyssa herself- quirky, classy, warm, and lively. Her love for music, design, attention to detail, and work ethic stems largely from her father, Kim- all of which resonate in the details.
We hope you enjoy this lil’ snippet of the design process.

Hey, hey, it’s time to shine the light on our current favorite single origin, a washed from Siguatepeque, Comayagua, Honduras 🇭🇳
This coffee is supplied by the Cooperativa Cafetalera Siguatepeque Limitada (COHORSIL), which is sandwiched between Comayagua and Intibuca- two of the most productive coffee regions known to the country. Another fun fact about COHORSIL: it’s not just a coffee cooperative, it also has an organic fertilizer production plant which uses coffee pulp as the base ingredient and California earthworms to promote decomposition. And, it has a massive greenhouse operation where thousands of vegetable seedlings are grown each year.
Let us know what you think of this delicious brew in the comments!!

We had so much fun at our show last weekend, we’re doing it again this Friday, May 8th!
THMPR is a Portland-born beast of experimental sound and fearless improv - a band that doesn’t just play music, they channel it. They’ve torn up stages with wild-eyed legends like Mike Dillon and Nolatet, Sexmob, Skerik, and even the desert thunder himself, Bombino. What starts as a groove mutates into madness - avant-garde jazz, heavy funk, cosmic noise, and melodic mayhem all crashing together in waves that build, break, and leave you gasping somewhere between chaos and bliss.
Ralph Huntley, Jason Carter, Count Kellam, Steve Berlin, Tom Nunes, and Courtney Von Drehle, along with a rotating cast of sonic daredevils, bring you the most death-defying improv this side of the Mississippi.

LIVE MUSIC!
Mbrascatu has been a Gov Cup favorite for years and we are so excited to have them back on Saturday, May 2nd!
“Born from the rich, cultural heart of Southern Italy and matured in the United States, Mbrascatu (mm-brah-ska-too) is the product of Andrea Algieri and some of the west coast’s finest musicians. While the music is not locked into any one regional sound, the diverse and global influences can all be heard in how Algieri organically blends styles. Thoughtful ballads, intense rock, and infectious, danceable grooves are at the core of the band’s sonic identity - coupled with Andrea’s warm, baritone voice and soloists with backgrounds in rock, funk, jazz, classical, folk, and more, the resultant sound is something not often seen in today’s musical landscape. The heartfelt messages contained within the sensitive lyrics translate across cultural and linguistic divides, and the panoramic storytelling conveyed within each song takes the listener on a journey through both, a world they know dearly and one they are just discovering.”
