15 years younger. This was 2008 in San Francisco at Billy Baldwin’s penthouse party the night we won the @glaad Media Award for Outstanding Television Movie, Mini-Series, or Anthology for the @dlchronicles
Behind the scenes we were flat broke, wearing thrift clothes, didn’t have enough money to buy a pancake, broken up, and walked back to our hotel in Nob Hill thru the Tenderloin from Union Square at 4AM in suits with our award and swag bags in tow, past paupers, pimps, and prostitutes, because we couldn’t even afford to catch a cab back to our hotel because our network chaperone had ghosted us at the party. Lol 😂
We had enough loose cash to share a breakfast at a greasy and seedy 24hr broke down cafe in the Tenderloin along the way. If you could’ve seen the stares!!! All we could do was laugh at the irony. 😂
Folks don’t know the half of it, they only know what was presented. We’ve paid our MF’n dues and then some and no one can say we haven’t earned our stripes - TOGETHER. That’s why we live in a perpetual state of gratitude.

He deserves a nap. He carries a lot. My well being has been his priority lately, even in the midst of work, finances, and crazy life. He’s always checking in to make sure that I’m OK. Yesterday I was so busy trying to barbecue, bake, clean, and organize an impromptu B-Day celebration for my husband that I forgot to post a birthday message! On top of that I didn’t get around to sending the Zoom info to everyone, I scorched my eggs and potatoes for the potato salad, the cakes fell flat, I didn’t have my games together, and I never had time to shave and look presentable. Corona Quarantine be damned!!!!! Nonetheless, I scrapped off the scorch and salvaged the potato salad. I used the fallen cakes and made it a birthday bread pudding. I organized the games as we went along and I did it all happy and nappy and family and friends tuned in to show their smiles and faces and to hear their voices to celebrate from afar. A hot Lucy mess!

Now I have time to reflect and to think. Wow. I met this man at 23 years old. He was skinny with baby hairs, baggy jeans, and a back pack he carried everywhere. He was quiet, feigned shy until he was comfortable for the secret ham to come out. He was so talented; actor, singer, and writer. He was an ardent Prince fan and could quote every line from The Color Purple, What’s Love Got to Do With It, and The Last Dragon. He’s a Black Movie Trivia wiz! Oh, and he loves amusement parks, DISNEY LAND, funnel cake, board games, and sci-fi/horror/fantasy.
He’s an original blerd and I fell head over heels for him.
From 23 to 47, where has the time gone? It feels like a blink of the eye. I’m sitting here thinking did we make the best of it? Did we seize ever fleeting moment? Did we run towards the sunset and burn bright, fast, and hard? I mean literally from boys to men! I can’t say for sure we always did but boy have we had a great journey.
I was enamored by the boy he was but I’m deeply in love with the man he’s become and I anticipate the man he’s becoming. Grown and sexy. My wish for my husband is to look back at anything that was left undone, unfulfilled, and to go after all those things with gusto, with fearlessness, without apology, because this 2nd half of life, this take 2, is about NO REGRETS, NO FKS GIVEN.
