PCOS is now being renamed PMOS - Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome
And this change goes far beyond just a new label.
After 14 years of research, global discussions, and input from thousands of women, researchers concluded that the term “PCOS” didn’t accurately reflect the condition. Many women diagnosed with it don’t actually have ovarian cysts, while the metabolic and hormonal impact of the condition often went under-recognised.
The shift to PMOS helps acknowledge this as a long-term endocrine and metabolic condition that affects energy, insulin resistance, inflammation, hormones, fertility, and overall health.
Most importantly, this change was strongly driven by women living with the condition themselves
The goal is simple: better awareness, earlier diagnosis, improved care, and more research for the millions affected worldwide.
