What sets humans apart from other beings is our drive and desire to dream. Someone dreams of having a meal to survive, while the other dreams of professional growth. Someone dreams of walking on their feet, while the other dreams of being able to rest. Someone dreams of being loved, while the other dreams of personal space. Our community thrives on millions of dreams seen and lived every single day, and the one commonality amongst all of these are the desire to make life better than yesterday. One such dream of ChessBase India has been “Powering Chess In India”. But what if we could power India through chess?
If you are based in India, and would like to participate, please fill out the form in the bio link 🔗 🇮🇳 @chessbaseindia@sagarshahchess
Recently we met with government officials in Malawi. Malawi is currently facing extreme economic challenges, but we still encouraged them to invest in chess. It’s low/cost and can be a global differentiator focusing on the talent develop of our youth.
Yesterday, history was made, not just for Nigeria, but for hope, rehabilitation, and the transformative power of opportunity.
Against all odds, Kirikiri Medium Custodial Center proudly became the FIRST custodial center in Nigeria to represent the country at the prestigious Chess For Freedom Competition, an international online chess tournament for incarcerated individuals across the globe..
And we did not just participate to make up the numbers…
Out of 16 correctional facilities from countries including Ghana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Kenya, Namibia, and Eswatini, Nigeria finished in an outstanding 6th place at the Intercontinental (Africa) Chess For Freedom Competition.
This moment is bigger than chess.
It is proof that inmates are more than their past mistakes. It is proof that with the right platform, mentorship, and opportunity, lives can be transformed and greatness can emerge from unexpected places.
A special appreciation to Chess To School for their partnership and commitment in training the inmates for 8 intensive weeks. Your contribution played a massive role in the history we witnessed yesterday.
We also honor the memory and vision of our late founder, Bidemi Oladipupo, who held this chess initiative so close to his heart before his passing. Yesterday’s achievement is a continuation of the dream he believed in so deeply. His vision lives on.
This is only the beginning.
From behind custodial walls, history was written.
And Nigeria was proudly represented. 🇳🇬♟️

FROM MALAWI TO THE WORLD ♟️🌍
Today wasn’t just a prison tournament. It was intercontinental.
5 teams registered — men, women, and youth — all locked in and making moves behind bars that put Malawi on the map. Our players proved that strategy has no borders and talent has no sentence.
Special thanks to Airtel Malawi for keeping us connected with reliable internet. Without you, this global link-up wouldn’t have been possible. 🙏
Checkmate isn’t just a win here. It’s a statement. It’s rehabilitation. It’s hope calculating 3 moves ahead.
To every player who showed courage, discipline, and brilliance today: you represented Malawi with pride.
The world was watching. And Malawi delivered. 🇲🇼

Catching up with our brother @tonyballard1977 the founder of Masters & Mentors!
Tony who is @thegiftofchess Director of Prison Outreach was recently in NYC with some exciting news.
This guy here is the founder of @thegiftofchess doing amazing work and also donated Chess boards to us when we needed it over 500 boards I lost count lol. Russell has the biggest heart and has a genuine love for the game of chess and wants to expose every child to the game of chess. Check out the @thegiftofchess and donate to their mission.
At the @lfpeshawar (Peshawar Literary Festival), we connected with education stakeholders to explore how chess can be integrated into early and middle education.
But the real magic happened with the children—over 200 young minds discovering the game, making their first moves, and embracing the challenge.
Seeing their excitement as they played and received chess sets from @thegiftofchess was truly unforgettable.
Because every great thinker starts with a first move.
