I have often struggled in my adult life to talk about religion in a way that feels productive for me because I found that my DEEP questions and doubts about Godโs morality and my own bad experiences with certain Christians were at odds with my equally DEEP crave for community that I always found in church.
Fast forward to just three short years ago, I started drag and found that the spine tingling feelings I got when I was younger hearing old hymns were the same spine tingling feelings I felt watching my favorite performers and performing myself. I knew pretty quickly that I had found my new community.
Fast forward to two years ago, and I was part of the first Yacht House Party Sunday Service where queer and trans people and our allies came together to both celebrate the community aspect of church that we love, while working through the collective religious trauma that so many of us were forced through. Iโm happy to say weโre in our third year of this tradition and you can join the congregation April 26th at Joymongers (tickets at the link in my bio)!
