A little more Lighting BTS from Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat! We couldn’t have any obvious film lighting on the set, as that would blow our cover with our “mark” who thinks there’s either no filming taking place, or just something for a small documentary- not an entire Amazon show about him! Art Dept was BUSY on this one so G&E stepped in to build a dozen overhead “flourescent” fixtures that matched the vibe of the cabin. Since we would be at the same location for months, we permanently powered them with the Titan Powerbox in the attic. I could control them from our Video Village to prevent overheating issues when not in use. #thefunton #companyretreat #astera
A little lighting BTS from an unaired pilot I did last year. Thanks @wooden_nickel_lighting for the Litestar Airlite 1000 Tube subrental which provided the perfect shape as a base to light our talent and audience. Easy to rig and the skirt provides options for control. Trusty Skypanels with chimeras filled in, along with Aputure 60x’s for hairlights.

Roundtable cast interviews with 16+ people and just about as many cameras! 4x16 LiteTiles lit the cast with additional Litemat 8s and an Aputure 1200x with dome for our host. In this show, ONLY ONE person isn’t an actor- and that person has no idea that they are on a tv show! Breaking that secret would ruin the whole show and send 100+ people back to unemployment, so we had to be secretive with our lighting.
Definitely no visible “movie lights”. BUT, the special camera hides eat up over 75% of the light! For this night scene! We had to covertly pump a bunch of lumens into this restaurant without being obvious.
We went with a bazillion ol’ trusty china balls and then bought out 4 Harbor Freights of string lights to help it blend in with the decor. We used some “movie lights” on stage for the magic show.
🚨 At one point, something went wrong, so I had to send in Best Boy @sammysunshine13 to intervene. He was all decked out in his usual Fun Ton film crew gear, so had to quickly change into Sagebrush Cantina wardrobe in case he was seen by “the mark”! #juryduty #companyretreat #gaffer #thefunton DP: @chriscdarnell
