đŠ What to Do if You See a Lone Fox Cub in Your Garden
At this point in fox cub season, itâs common to see young cubs alone in gardens or parks â but donât worry! Hereâs what you need to know:
Why might you see a lone cub?
Vixens are wonderful mothers who prepare multiple dens before giving birth. They often move their cubs between these dens for safety or if the current den becomes unsuitable. During these moves, she might leave a cub temporarily at a halfway point, where it will wait for her return. This is a normal part of their parenting behaviour.
đ Should you do anything?
Leave the cub alone. Mother foxes have incredible maternal instincts â unless physically impossible, theyâll return for their young.
Keep your distance. Observe quietly from afar and avoid disturbing the cub or mother (she may be nearby).
Provide water. A shallow dish of fresh water in your garden can help them, especially during dry periods.
Monitor, but donât intervene. If the cub appears injured, in immediate danger, or is vocalising persistently, contact a wildlife professional.
đ Remember: Foxes are resilient and adapt well to all environments. Your garden can be a safe haven if you give them space and respect.

A 'Freedom Friday' that we are very happy to be able to share.
Terrified little 'Bart and Lisa', rescued bruised and bloodied from a football netting entanglement, have been signed off by our vet as fit to go home.
Check out how excited they were on their return. đ„°đ„°
đ Please remember that, sadly, not every entanglement rescue ends as fortunately. Many animals do not survive ordeals like this. Letâs keep rolling up our netting when not in useâtwo minutes of your time can save lives.

Recently rescued, 'Kitty' was found in a kind householdâs kitchen, enjoying their cat's breakfast. đ
She has captured our hearts with her stunning appearance - you may wonder why her fur colour is so unique. Here are the possible explanations:
đ€ Fever Coat: This temporary change occurs when a mother fox is sick or stressed during pregnancy. The cubâs fur may appear lighter, grey, or silver due to stress or illness affecting pigment-producing cells. Fever coat usually fades as the cub grows and its adult coat develops.
đ€ Stress Coat: This describes fur changes in response to stress or anxiety. The colour change is temporary and not related to genetics. Once the stressor is removed, the fur colour and texture typically return to normal.
đ€ Genetic Factors: Cubs in a litter can have varying fur colours due to genetics or mutations affecting pigmentation. Some cubs may carry recessive genes or mutations, leading to fur differences from the typical red or orange. These variations reflect natural diversity in the red fox population and do not necessarily indicate a health issue. As Kitty matures, her fur colour may continue to change.
Our team will closely monitor this little vixen as she grows, and weâll keep you updated on her progress.
Thank you for your continued support as we work to give Kitty and all the other cubs and adults in our care the best chance for a successful return to the wild! đŠ

Weâre sharing a heartening update about 'Rowland', who faced a terrifying ordeal after becoming trapped in a rodent-poison bin (photos 1). Although he was fortunate to avoid poisoning, Rowland couldnât be reunited with his motherâthere were no sightings or information about her whereabouts. đ
Today, weâre delighted to bring you a hopeful update. Following careful tests and close observations, Rowland was placed with two other rescued cubsâ 'Pigeon' and 'Mr. Big'. The three are now finding immense comfort in each other, supporting one another as they grow (photo 2). They will stay together as they mature and will be soft-released trio when natural dispersal allows.
Rowlandâs life story isnât the path we would choose for him, but this close-knit trio represents a compassionate and practical second bestâgiving them safety, companionship, and the chance to thrive in a natural setting.
If youâd like to support these patients or others in our care, you can donate through the link in our bio. Thank you for your generosity.
đ Poisons are unnecessary. We live alongside natural rat catchersâfoxes, badgers, owls, and other wildlifeâthat are skilled, efficient rat predators. Coexisting with these species helps keep rat populations in balance without harming ecosystems.

Entanglement rescue, after entanglement rescue, after entanglement rescue. đ
Our cub ICU is full of patients suffering from constriction wounds. Yet they are the lucky ones â many others havenât survived their ordeals. đ
We share this again to educate and raise awareness. Imagine having to explain to your young child why someoneâs blood is in the garden, or why there is a body entangled in their net. Imagine how they would feel. đ
Please help prevent this suffering: đ Always roll up and securely fasten all types of netting when not in use (football, tennis, garden, etc.). It only takes a moment to protect innocent lives from fear, injury, and death.
đ If you encounter an entangled animal, contact wildlife rescue immediately. Never attempt to free it yourselfâinjuries or internal damage may not be visible, and improper handling can cause further harm.
Wishing scared and bruised 'Lisa & Bart' a speedy recovery.

Weâre often asked about feeding foxes because it can be a heartwarming experience, but itâs important to do so responsibly to protect their health and wild nature.
