We’re heading back to New York next week and we’re so excited to spend a few days surrounded by film, cameras, and good people.
From portrait swaps to a photowalk with Kodak, CineStill, and Monroe County, plus a few extra moments in between, this weekend is all about shooting, sharing, and connecting.
If you’re in the area, come hang with us in Rochester. We’d love to see you there.

A Mamiya camera in every common format (RB67 has sold)
6
One of the most compact and travel-friendly medium format cameras ever made, the Mamiya 6 shoots beautiful 6x6 square negatives with exceptional sharpness and detail. With a collapsible lens mount, quiet leaf shutter, and intuitive rangefinder design, it’s become a favorite.
645
A simple, easy-to-shoot, and highly modular medium format camera. This one here has an autowinder handle, but you’ll usually see this camera with a manual advance lever. If you want a waist-level finder, additional backs, or other weird attachments, this camera’s got it.
C330
This 6x6 TLR is a beast of a camera. While a little larger than other TLRs, the Mamiya C330 trades lightness for sturdiness. It can focus incredibly close regardless of the attached lens because of its bellows focusing system.
The C330 is one of the best TLRs on the market. With a mid-range price, this camera is a must-own for fans of this shooting style.
RB67 (sold)
The RB67 is one of the most affordable 6x7 format cameras on the market. Many film photographers pick this camera up as their first medium-format camera. It’s bulky and can be slow to shoot, which is a criticism or a benefit depending on who you ask.
Class is back in session!
We’re hosting another Film 101 class to share everything we wish we knew when we started. This is a hands-on workshop, not a lecture. You’ll receive in-class instruction and then put concepts to practice shooting with instructors by your side to learn the basics in real time.
Registration includes a roll of color film plus development and scanning through our custom scans service. If you need to borrow a camera, just let us know on the sign up page. (Limited quantities)

Meet the VZ-6617 by @exposingengineering
The VZ-6617 is a new panoramic medium format camera being funded on Kickstarter. It utilizes what @exposingengineering calls a “Variable Zone Film Gate™️” that allows you to switch from 6x6 all the way to 6x17 on 120 film.
Their Kickstarter campaign ends tomorrow so head to their page and check it out. It looks like there are very limited quantities still available! 👀👀👀

CineStill 50D doesn’t get as much attention, but give it strong sunlight and it delivers sharp detail, fine grain, and that signature halation glow.
It’s not the most flexible film, but it’s a film that teaches you to really watch your light, and rewards you for it.
With sunny days coming back, it’s a great time to give 50D a shot! Grab a roll through our LinkTree today!
Would you shoot something this light-dependent? Tell us in the comments 👇🏽
Edit: In the “How to Shoot” section (slides 5-6), the ISO numbers were accidentally flipped. Here’s the correct info:
1/125 at f/5.6 = 25 ISO
1/250 at f/5.6 = 50 ISO (box speed)
1/500 at f/5.6 = 100 ISO

What would you shoot first with the 645N?
The law of reciprocity allows changes to your aperture or shutter speed while maintaining the same exposure. Understanding reciprocity unlocks better control over exposure and creative looks.
Reciprocity is the reciprocal effect that changing stops has on an exposure. Plus or minus X stops of shutter speed or aperture can be compensated for by X stops of the other.
1/500th at f/2.8 is equal to 1/250th at f/4 because it’s a +1 stop shutter speed and -1 stop aperture.
Film loses light sensitivity the longer it is exposed—leading to reciprocity failure.
Reciprocity failure needs to be corrected for by longer exposure times. Use an online reciprocity calculator (easy) or calculate it yourself using film data sheets (hard).
