💛 Real stories from the Gentle Disco For many children, school discos can feel overwhelming. Too loud. Too busy. Too much. But when we create the right environment, everything changes. Children who had never attended before came, stayed, played, and connected. Children who felt anxious felt safe. Children who felt excluded felt included. ✨ Inclusion in action 💛 On 19th March, alongside the PTFA disco at Kingsbridge Primary School, we created something different. A quieter, sensory-friendly space where children could feel comfortable, included, and fully themselves. Around 60 children joined us across age groups. Many had never been able to attend a traditional school disco before. This time, they stayed, played, and connected with their peers 💫 🧸 The activity area was full of movement and joy, with climbing, balancing, swinging, bouncing, and exploring 🌿 The Chill-Out Zone offered den building, drawing, construction play, bracelet-making, magnet games, and cosy “Nest” spaces ✨ Soft lighting, ear defenders, and a calmer environment made all the difference This is what true inclusion looks like. Creating spaces where every child can belong. A huge thank you to Andrea Scanlon and the PTFA team for running a fantastic main event, and to Alison Smart, Jess Wilson, Nat, and Lynne Tarrab-Snooks for bringing the Gentle Disco to life. We’re upgrading our website to become an online community hub, reflecting all the work we do in person: advice, resources, support, specialist access, and lending fidget tools and equipment. We need a volunteer photographer to help us take beautiful photos of our sessions, tools, and community activities. Your work will be fully credited and seen locally and nationally — a great way to build your portfolio while making a real difference. Our next Sensory Processing Differences session is on March 10th — just 2 days from today! These Tuesday sessions are designed for parents, carers and staff supporting neurodivergent children. Together, we explore what SPD is, how it can show up in everyday life, and practical ways to support regulation at home, in school and in the community. Alongside the group session, you can book a free 45-minute 1:1 support slot with The Fidget Project’s founder, Lynne — a chance to talk through your child’s individual needs, ask questions, and gain tailored guidance. Neurodiverse children often have wonderfully strong interests — and through them, they develop incredible skills. “Appliance Boy” has always loved machinery… It started with hoovers years ago. Now? He turns his skilled hands (and brilliant brain!) to plumbing fixtures, mechanical equipment, repairs and restoration work of all kinds. If it has an appliance, he’s interested. If it’s broken, he wants to understand it. These days, he’s also turning his hands to chipping Willow bark, changing filters on equipment, and recharging household tools — always learning, always refining his craft. Passion builds expertise.
