ACTION DESIGNER / STUNT PERFORMER: Here’s a clip from the opening of Orthodox, directed by David Leon — where I have the pleasure of getting knocked clean out by the brilliant @stephengraham1973 . For this underground boxing scene we had controlled choreography designed to feel anything but controlled. We wanted it to feel raw, tense, and a little bit uncomfortable — like you’re right there in the room. Stephen brings such intensity to everything he does, so the challenge is matching that energy while keeping everything safe and repeatable. When it lands right, it feels very real… even if you know exactly what’s coming. And if you’re going down, you may as well go down swinging… especially when it’s at the hands of one of the best in the business. @roytaylorfilms #thefallguystunts #stunts #stephengraham #boxingscene #actiondesign

STUNT COORDINATOR: Wire work in Viking boots hits differently. From shield-up sprints (yes, bin lids in rehearsal) to full-commitment jerk backs in layered armour, this show kept the rigging team busy. On How to Train Your Dragon, dragons may be CG — but the Vikings reacting to them are very real. That means full-body pulls, directional hits, synchronised group jerks and timing everything with pyro and camera moves. You rehearse in trainers. You perform in heavy of costume. Precision becomes everything. Massive respect to the wire team — the invisible dragon force of nature. STUNT PERFORMER / FIGHT CHOREOGRAPHER: Here’s a little before-and-after from The Numbers Station, working alongside James Grogan @jgstunts and under the guidance of Greg Powell @stuntsworldwide . Here is a pre-vis followed by the actual edit. This scene needed to feel grounded, brutal, and uncomfortably real — no flashy moves, just raw, efficient action. The kind that feels like it could genuinely happen. Fight choreography like this is all about restraint. It’s not about how many moves you can throw in, it’s about choosing the right ones and making them count. Every beat had to feel motivated, messy, and believable. @roytaylorfilms #thefallguystunts #stunts #nicolascage #fightchoreography #behindthescenes

STUNT DOUBLE: As a stunt double you occasionally find yourself behind the wheel of something a little bit special… and this was one of those moments. Here I am doubling @officialdavidthewlis in Mr. Nice, coordinated by Gareth Milne. Filmed out in Spain, this sequence had all the ingredients — high-speed driving, weapons work, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting. What always makes me laugh is how calm these photos look compared to what was actually going on. Behind that “casual drive” is precision driving, controlled speeds, and a whole team making sure everything hits its marks safely. I also got to step out of the car and add a bit more drama to proceedings with the fret of a gun fight at the end. @roytaylorfilms #thefallguystunts #stunts #davidthewlis #behindthescenes #stuntdriving

STUNT PERFORMER / CHARACTER: May the 4th be with you. Meet… “Handlebar Head.” Here I am taking on Mae (played by the incredibly committed @amandlastenberg ) in the opening noodle bar fight in The Acolyte — and yes, she really did bring it. Always a pleasure working with actors who are that hands-on with their own action. Now the challenge here wasn’t just the fight… it was the costume. That animatronic head looked amazing on camera, but from the inside? Let’s just say visibility was… optimistic. Tiny pinholes in the cheeks, full robotics, puppeteers controlling movement — and a lot of trust required. Add in being launched across tables, smashed through furniture, and trying to stay spatially aware while effectively blind… and you’ve got yourself a proper stunt puzzle. Hot, sweaty, slightly disorienting… and absolutely worth it to be another part of the Star Wars universe. Second Unit Stunt Coordinator: A beat from Morbius, this time working with Matt Smith — and again alongside the legend @garypowellstunts and Pete Miles. @broadstonerisks One punch… big consequence. @gregtownley gets hit so hard he’s sent flying back into the tunnel of a tube station. We used a carefully rigged wire pull timed perfectly with Matt’s performance to create that explosive reaction. For the test Greg’s pulled backwards onto crash mats, but for the take he hits the platform mat-less with no forgiveness. A great example of how a single moment on screen is built from layers of coordination, trust, and repetition and being a talented and tough stunt performer like Greg. @roytaylorfilms #thefallguystunts @matt_smith_official_ #mattsmith #behindthescenes

STUNT COORDINATOR: Sometimes the most effective stunt tool… is a well-timed nudge. To sell a proper Astrid-lands-a-hit moment, we needed Hiccup to take a convincingly hard knock. No big wire gag. No mechanical rig. Just timing, mats, and a sneaky coordinator staying out of frame. We positioned protection just out of lens, had Mason creep into the sweet spot… and I provided what I’ll generously call a “gentle” assist. With the right performer — and Mason is a seriously capable one — subtle practical tricks often beat complicated tech. @roytaylorfilms #thefallguystunts @masonthames #httyd #howtotrainyourdragon #practicalstunts #stuntcoordinator

FIGHT CHOREOGRAPHER / STUNT DOUBLE — Here’s a side-by-side of the fight scene we created for Avengers: Age of Ultron There were a lot of moving parts in this sequence — wires, flips, props, and actors all coming together in perfect chaos. Here I am talking through the action during rehearsal with the talented legend that is Andy Lister @listersbox , making sure every hit, tumble, and throw lands safely and looks spectacular on camera. We were rehearsing in slow motion so I have sped it up to match the actual film footage. It’s in these planning moments that the magic happens — precision and communication before the big take are what make Marvel’s mayhem look effortless on screen. STUNT COORDINATOR with Rowley Irlam: Sometimes the best way to explain a stunt is by example. Here I am in the rehearsal space of Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore demonstrating exactly how I wanted a fall to look to @troykenchington . Nothing like getting stuck in yourself to show the timing, rotation, and landing points — it helps everyone visualise the move safely and effectively. Being hands-on like this is one of the joys of stunt coordination — a mix of teaching, demonstrating, and having a bit of fun in the process. @roytaylorfilms #thefallguystunts #fantasticbeasts #secretsofdumbledore #stuntcoordinator

STUNT DOUBLE: Here’s some behind-the-scenes footage of a stunt I performed for Spectre where Bond and M’s car gets T-boned during the London chase sequence. This stunt relied heavily on timing — because neither of us driving could actually see the other vehicle approaching. Both drivers had to rely entirely on speed marks, radio cues and rehearsed timing to bring the cars together safely and convincingly. We ran the stunt twice. On one of the takes a camera may or may not have been sacrificed to the action gods… but thankfully we nailed the shot on the second attempt. When you’re filming large practical stunts on real locations — especially in central London — there are only a handful of chances to get it right. Precision driving, teamwork, and a little bit of faith. Classic Bond. Thanks to @garypowellstunts for the awesome opportunity and @leemillham who was the driving the truck. Shout out to Dominic Fysh who was 2nd unit 1st AD @roytaylorfilms #thefallguystunts #spectre #jamesbond #carstunts

STUNT PERFORMER: Don’t be fooled by the smile in the first picture. This is, without question, one of the worst costumes I have ever worn in my career. I was playing one of Titus Abrasax’s Royal Guards in Jupiter Ascending — and suffered for the privilege. They looked incredible on camera… but wearing them was a completely different story. You couldn’t raise your arms because of the rigid armour shell. Which meant no scratching your face… and definitely no eating. The mask was fully enclosed so we had to breathe through tubes between takes — and hold our breath while performing. Vision? Non-existent. Mobility? Limited. If you tripped while running the only option was a full face-plant. To top it off the cloak pulled down constantly on your neck. Visually stunning. Physically brutal. All in all… I’d give this costume 0/10 for comfort. This business isn’t always glamorous. @roytaylorfilms #thefallguystunts #jupiterascending #moviecostumes #stuntperformer

STUNT PERFORMER: Here are some stunt beats from King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. I had the chance to play a couple of roles on this one — a Blackleg soldier serving the tyrannical King Vortigern (played by Jude Law), and one of Mordred’s mages who meets a rather unfortunate end falling from a giant war elephant. Working on this film was an absolute blast. Over the course of the shoot I was: Ravaged by dogs - Thrown down flights of stairs - Involved in some epic battle sequences, and during one take… I accidentally pulled the sword from the stone. Which would have made for a slightly different film. King Roy and the Legend of the Sword. Has a nice ring to it. The photos at the end are with some of the brilliant stunt team who made the chaos possible. @roytaylorfilms #thefallguystunts #kingarthur #judelaw #guyritchie #fantasyaction
