This week, RSVP member Julie Comfort joins us to share the thinking behind her work, shaped by a life of intentional detours and reinvention.
From glassblowing in San Francisco to photographing weddings in Costa Rica, and now designing experiences between Berlin and rural Spain, Julie’s journey is anything but linear. It’s this breadth of experience that informs her work today, centred around community, connection and belonging.

Wedding invitations have to communicate the practicalities. But they are also one of the first touchpoints guests have with the wedding experience.
How it feels, what it communicates, and how it makes guests feel are all part of the Anticipation phase, the time leading up to the wedding where you build up excitement for what’s to come. Studies show that people actually derive more happiness from anticipating a positive experience than the experience itself, and yet most people neglect treating this as part of the overall event.
People have a lot of reasons for showing up at your wedding. They love you, they want to celebrate with you, they want the free food. Some will show up out of obligation or social pressure. Some won’t show up at all.
But what if the invitation included a bold, enticing reason for them to show up, fully? What if the invitation didn’t just communicate the logistics, but the reason this wedding is unlike any other wedding they’ve ever been to? What if your invitation was so evocative it created profound, planning-their-whole-year-around-being-there FOMO? What if it didn’t just contain the who, when, and where, but the deeper why? Why this wedding is so meaningful, and why their presence is integral to it.
Need help identifying your why statement? Send me a dm. I’ll respond personally.

Many couples spend 12 months planning the details no one will remember a week later. And almost no time on the moments they’ll carry for the rest of their lives.
Both are designable. Only one gets a budget.
The emotional arc of a wedding is the invisible thread that connects every moment, from the nervous excitement of getting ready to the euphoria of the last dance. When it’s crafted with care, guests feel it without knowing why. When it’s missing, events just feel flat.
If you’re currently designing an event and want to map out the emotional journey you’re creating for your guests, I built a free tool to help you do exactly that. Link in bio.

When a potential client ghosts after a promising first conversation, the common assumption is that it came down to price. But most of them aren’t just going with the cheapest option, they’re choosing who makes them feel seen.
Today’s couples want the experience of wedding planning to feel fun, not like a second job. If you’re not designing your customer journey, then it just feels like admin.
I’ve heard a lot lately about how ghosting just comes with the territory now. But people don’t typically ghost on a good time. They ghost when continuing to move forward feels like a drag.
If you want me to personally audit what your intial inquiry feels like, no strings attached, send me a dm.

I don’t actually hate parties, but I never really loved them either. Until I discovered what events designed for experience could feel like.

When it comes to weddings, the word “luxury” has been reduced to a budget tier. But when I talk about luxury, I mean the feeling of elevation that often comes down to three things specifically:
1. Cohesion: where every element aligns to tell the same story
2. Effortlessness: where the design is so invisible that ease feels inevitable
3. Rarity: the sense that this is a once in a lifetime experience
This is what we’re designing toward at The Experiential Wedding. Not more. Just more intentional. If you want to know if the event you’re currently planning will feel as luxurious as it looks, run it through my free Event Experience Audit (link in bio). It takes less than 5 minutes and gives you a picture of how your event will feel.

What’s the point of putting so much time, money, and effort into planning an amazing event, and then making guests WORK at it?

We’ve spent 30 years perfecting how weddings looked. It’s time to focus on designing for how they feel.

A beautiful room doesn’t guarantee a beautiful time. Most planners leave the vibe to chance, hoping the guests will find their own way to that magic, connected feeling.
Julie Comfort from “The Experiential Wedding” teaches how to design for that magic on purpose. Consistently.
I just came back from Spain, where I attended “Crafting Invisible Luxury” an immersive training in experiential event design that was a curated memorable experience in itself, because in order to understand the method behind the magic, you need to live it.
If you have ever wondered about the methodology behind designing memorable experiences for the events you host/plan, I highly recommend you check “The Experiential Wedding” to learn how to move past esthetics and create something deeper, the feels that will have guests talking about your wedding or event for years!
I photographed this retreat, but also had the opportunity to dive into the lessons and experienced firsthand, and it was truly inspiring and moving.
I sincerely hope you get a chance to learn in this kind of environment too.
These retreats are small on purpose to facilitate true connections. To increase your chances of getting a spot I recommend you getting on Julie’s mailing list, so that you learn about the next one from her directly. Her emails are worth reading, too, I always find them interesting and inspiring.
