For our
@teslamotors spec ad,
@theericduron and I decided on a fast-paced, energetic look to match our young, content creator narrator.
Basing our creative director on old brand guidelines and customer research we found online, it seemed logical to highlight all the best attributes a young content creator would love about their Tesla.
In order to achieve the fast pacing and high energy that Tesla ads often follow on YouTube, I decided to shoot most of the spec with as wide a lens as we could find. This led us to the 9mm
@venuslaowa RF Cinema lens. Paired with quick, handheld camera movements, the ad has a larger-than-life feeling, congruent with our young content creator’s worldview.

Being critical: On paper, this direction makes sense. With a similar pacing, energy, and aesthetic to Tesla’s existing ads, a demographic properly represented by an ambitious, but busy, young entrepreneur, and a script reminiscent of ‘top 10’ videos—everything should fit perfectly.
In reality, budget, location, and more importantly, time constraints, left this spec’s execution with a lot to be desired. This does not take away from the enormous amount of knowledge and learning we all did as a result of this project. I am extremely proud of the entire crew. Thank you all for jumping straight into the deep-end with me!
