The very last practice we had the night before the show I was antagonizing Faiyaz and we were walking into each other trying to mess up each others solos when a pedal got kicked and blew up it’s circuits.
To prepare for the show I did a lot of work on my pedalboard so I wouldn’t be fiddling with it in soundcheck or having it act up during the show but this was the main pedal I had just added to “perfect” the tone.
So I found myself relying on the boss multi effects pedal I was gifted as a young one when an older friend of mine was giving away all their gear.
I honestly wasn’t even upset about, it just meant I had to go back to my roots, using the first pedal that I had learned how to play live with. Full ⭕️
I was fiddling with my pedals at soundcheck just like the good ol days but It did not act up during the show.
I did lose sound on my pedal board during our last song but it was just because I was f***king around too close to the sun 🙏 that’s never gonna change

This was the first song to come out from “Hold Still” it became the guide for the rest of the albums production and energy. I mean I saved a lot of presets off this project file.
I’m gonna do a song breakdown video on this one I swear to G*d!
Honestly if my Red Dead Redemption save file is still there then all is forgiven because I am very attached to my Arthur Morgan since I got him looking swag even though I played with high honour, which is not easy to do.
Now that I’m thinking about it, stealing his PlayStation isn’t the high honour thing to do but also it was low honour for him to pretend he knew how to film.
If learned anything from Arthur it’s that if you live for revenge then you reap what you sow, I will pray on it and try to forgive him 🙏
Maybe he’s actually on the cutting edge and this is how all band documentaries will be shot in the future
To be fair I am not a guitarist I am a “band leader” which is more like a g*ng leader. Like if another band steps to one of my band members it’s like the Jets vs the Sharks and it’s on me to flash the switch bl*de first.
Maybe it’s more like g*ngs of New York, that’s cooler. Yeah,it’s more like that and I just have to give a good speech before every show (rumble) so that we as a band no longer fear de*th and can battle the other bands (friends and peers)

Before I say anything about the new song, we are playing tonight at Lee’s Palace with The OBGM’s and Bonnie Trash. Two of the greatest bands doing it now. Extremely excited to lose it tonight with them!
Now this song “Backs Away” is a tune I really love but didn’t know where to fit it on “Hold Still”. It’s actually a sample of the bass line from “Saint Vitus’ Dance” reversed. One of the few times I can explicitly say what a sample is because no one can sue me. Very snake-eating-its-own-tale to sample yourself but not the first or last time I’ve sampled my own music 🐍
Some of the b-side/deluxe tunes have hints of lyrics from other songs. I thought about changing them but I like the ties to the other tunes or that you can get idea of what songs are from the same litter 🐱
As I’m writing this I realize I took lyrics from this song for a even newer unreleased song that probably won’t come out till the next album like late in the year or maybe 2027. Music is time travel. Here’s one more animal emoji 🦦
