So what is a Reunion Circle?⭕️ It’s a casual, intimate, community-centered gathering designed for previous The Dumpling Circle members - to reunite with familiar faces from past events, while also getting to know more people from TDC community (and the founder, Yi - if you care haha). Last Saturday, we hosted our very first Reunion Circle: a dumpling-making + hotpot feast to ring in the Year of the Fire Horse🐎🔥Friends who’ve come to or supported Circle events in the past gathered around the table again, folding dumplings side by side - this time trying our homemade fermented sour cabbage and boiling them straight into a spicy Sichuan hotpot🥟🍲 We celebrated the New Year and my partner Andrew’s birthday with the most fragrant Tangerine Jasmine Tea cake🍊from @lalabakeshop.nyc , tried baking the viral black sesame tangyuan cookies, and ended the night gathered around the fire pit tasting Chinese wine together🪵 A little messy, a little loud, deeply intimate, and full of love⭕️ If you’d like to join a Reunion Circle one day, make sure to come to a Dumpling Circle event in the coming months - we plan to host Reunion Circles on a quarterly basis❤️ #thedumplingcircle #hotpot #chinesenewyear #dumpling #community

Dumpling Circle Recap [05/16/26 农历丙午年三月三十] I used to think AAPI Month was a strange concept because being Asian, being Chinese, has simply been my whole life. But this year, I decided to embrace it by thoughtfully weaving three Asian-owned small businesses into the circle experience alongside all the delicious dumplings everyone made together. Second-generation Chinatown family business owner Karen from @grandteaimports brewed Taishan ancestral black tea sourced from local farmers in her hometown. My dear friend Rose of @rosespineappleshorts baked fresh matcha pineapple shorts inspired by childhood nostalgia and her Taiwanese American heritage. And finally, everyone walked home with a little red envelope tucked with surprise Chinese food-inspired stickers featuring ingredients from today’s dumpling recipe, illustrated by Hong Kong artist @miiasoey . What I loved most about this circle, once again, was the people in the room. People from different walks of life and cultural backgrounds gathered at @welcome.to.chinatown to celebrate AAPI stories and heritage through the universal language of food. IG says it won’t promote videos longer than 3 minutes, but after feeling sad all day, I decided to just share my real feelings this Mother’s Day and give you all an update on my grandma - she fell asleep during our video call, so it’s fair to say her dementia has progressed even more. But moments like this are also what keep me going and continue building this community, even when it feels incredibly difficult sometimes. Dumpling Circle Recap [04/25/26 农历丙午年三月初九] There’s nothing better than warm dumplings on a rainy Saturday. This past circle was smaller than usual - at one point, I even considered canceling, but so glad I didn’t. In some ways, it made everything feel even more intimate and special. I loved every moment of slowing down together - making dumplings, sharing laughs, hearing how couples met, and getting to know each person around the table a little more deeply. It’s never just about the food (even though the dumplings were very good). It’s the conversations, the energy, the feeling you leave with after.
