What building and hosting a talk show actually taught me is that itās one of the purest forms of storytelling strategy there is. Because when you strip it all down, a talk show isnāt really about the host, itās about whether you can make someone feel seen in real time.
People donāt remember questions, they remember how you made them feel while answering them. The best interviews arenāt the ones with the āperfect questions,ā theyāre the ones where the guest forgets theyāre being interviewed and starts telling the truth.
Energy leads, structure follows. You can plan segments, outlines, and talking points all day, but if the energy is off, the audience disconnects immediately. Storytelling is emotional before it is strategic, always.
Iāve also learned that silence is part of the story. Some of the most powerful moments donāt come from what is said, but from the space left for reflection, emotion, and honesty to surface naturally.
And as a host, your job is not to shine, itās to reveal. Youāre not the main character in the room. Youāre the guide that helps someone elseās story become clear enough for people to connect with it.
At the end of the day, attention is earned through authenticity, not performance. Audiences can tell when something is curated versus when it is real and real always wins in the long run.
As I reflect on this journey, it feels even more meaningful knowing that on May 11 (my birthday), the show will turn 3 years old. What started as an idea has become a living archive of stories, lessons, and human connection that continues to shape how I see storytelling, people, and purpose.
What this has taught me as a strategist is simple: whether itās a talk show, a brand, or a business, storytelling isnāt about what you say. Itās about what people walk away understanding about you.
And if they donāt feel something⦠they wonāt remember anything.
