Yesterday Danielle said, “I think I’d rather see The Melvins” and I’ve never been more in love.
@sicknewworld Vegas ‘26 ft. Acid Bath, Cypress Hill, Mastodon, Melvins, Clutch, KoRn, System of a Down and some sore-ass feet.
Very stoked to finally have this liquid variant of @bloodincantationofficial ’s Absolute Elsewhere in my hands. I pre-ordered this as a Christmas gift to myself and now the wait is over! Absolute Elsewhere is one of my favorite albums in recent memory and I haven’t taken it out of my rotation since it came out back in 2024. Effortlessly incorporating all sorts of genres into one cohesive piece of extreme music, it rules, go check it out (and hope the alien liquid contained inside doesn’t decide to melt away my record collection).
Unique, thoughtfully done presentation like this is why I’ll always be an advocate for physical media over streaming platforms.
Six (!!!) years of being Legally Lovers. I love you @trexprincess ! Nobody else I’d rather be navigating the Hollywood mess with. Here’s to many more leap year marriage celebrations!
Celebrity deaths/tributes are fucking weird but whatever. I distinctly remember sitting in my family’s computer room—also our living room—at the computer, my back to the big ol’ window that framed the thunderstorm outside. I was the only one home at the time and, naturally, doing what any 12-year-old with dial-up internet access and an empty house would do: downloading music off of Limewire.
At this point in my journey as a heavy music consumer, I had become aware of Ozzfest, and the lineup was often how I discovered new bands. This was during one of the Sabbath reunions, and I was really only familiar with the radio hits from Ozzy’s solo career, so that’s what I expected as I began downloading Black Sabbath’s Iron Man.
After what I’m sure was about 42 minutes of painfully slow data transfer, I finally had in my possession a terrible MP3 of Black Sabbath’s most popular song—one I had never actually heard before. I loaded it into WinAmp and hit play. To my surprise, it didn’t begin with a flashy guitar riff but instead a slow, repetitive beat courtesy of Bill Ward’s bass drum. Thump. Thump. Thump. That sound alone was enough to make my ears perk up. Then Tony Iommi hit a monster of a chord—something that sounded so undeniably evil—just as Ozzy’s distorted vocals cut through: “I am Iron Man.”
I had never heard anything like it. I was instantly hooked. If I’d only been dipping my toes into the waters of heavy music before, this was the moment I got pushed into the deep end. It’s one of those distinct memories where I can recall my tastes shifting—discovering something that made me feel excited, alive, and inspired to create.
It’s hard to think of a more perfect run of albums than the first six Black Sabbath records. Three of the best musicians, tied together by the voice of someone unlike anyone else. True lightning in a bottle.
We could have been born at any point in time, but I’m so thankful I was alive while Ozzy fucking Osbourne was making music. I never got to meet Ozzy but I was fortunate enough to see him live a few times so we breathed the same air and shit, that’s good enough for me.
Thanks for the incredible music and for changing my life, Oz!
Hellooooo friends of the internet! This coming Tuesday (1/21) I’ll be popping up my burger stand @cincinnatikidburgerco outside of The Grant in Glassell Park for some burger business for the first service of ‘25. All sales, tips, putting money in my back pocket, etc will be going to the LA Food Bank, an invaluable recourse to the people of Los Angeles year round but especially now as the city continues to navigate the destruction caused by the fires.
Don’t eat meat? No problem! We’ll have impossible burgs for ya.
Have young kids who haven’t made fake IDs to get into bars? No problem! We’ll be posted out on the sidewalk
so you can grab a burg to enjoy wherever you want.
We’ll have coneys, too! But wait — there’s more!
@jayshwin is gonna whip up some cookies to satisfy your sweet tooth. Here’s the deets ⬇️
Where: @thegrant_la 3515 Eagle Rock Blvd.
When: Tuesday Jan. 21st 6-9 pm
Hoping to make this a big one so we can give some love back to my favorite city in the world while it’s hurting, so come on out and smash a burg for a good cause!
