Today my Dad would have been a year older.
I don’t even know what age he would have turned because we lost him when I was 13 or 14, and somehow the whole thing still feels a bit fuzzy even 17 years later.
I think about him in songs a lot.
ABBA. Elton John. Ebenezer Obey. Sunny Ade.
He taught me music and refined my ears for what is good and beautiful long before I even understood what that meant.
And somehow, today, The Playground is being born too.
I didn’t intentionally plan for my first ever event to happen on his birthday. The idea only came to me last month, so this honestly just feels like time and chance aligning itself in a strange way.
But deep down, I feel like this is the start of something significant. A new chapter for me as I wander into the unknown.
To every single person who bought into the vision early, through support, gifting, encouragement, or by simply buying tickets even though they were priced a bit high, thank you. Truly.
Today feels symbolic.
Remembering my Father, while witnessing the birth of something new at the same time.

Quick story time.
I got properly soaked into new gen gospel music through Anendlessocean when Spotify randomly suggested “Nazarene” to me. I told Salem about it and apparently bro had already been deep in his AEO bag, so he started putting me onto more deep cuts. Long story short, that’s how I found myself at the concert.
Before AEO came on stage, Greatman Takit was performing and Omo… that brother was rapping, singing, worshipping, all at once. Instantly I knew there was something different about him.
I left that concert and went straight into his catalogue. Been in awe ever since.
Funny enough, I’ve randomly met artists before at hotels, gyms, restaurants and usually the most I do is acknowledge them and move on. But meeting Greatman at GTFood was different. After the normal hello, I just couldn’t shake the feeling that I needed more than a handshake and quick pleasantries, so I asked for a picture.
And I’m genuinely happy I did.
I usually never let people know I’m a fan 😭 but because of how much this man’s ministry has blessed me spiritually, I dropped that principle immediately.
Thank you for being such an amazing addition to the body of Christ. The way you minister through music and even through preaching in between sets has blessed me deeply.
