More than learning. This is where experience meets experimentation ☕🌱 Day 3 of CQI PHP Project Indonesia 2026 was all about turning knowledge into practice — exploring processing methods, exchanging perspectives, solving challenges together, and understanding coffee beyond theory. Every participant brings a different story from their origin, creating a space where collaboration, curiosity, and innovation grow side by side. Because great coffee is not only about the final cup — it is about the process behind it. 🌍✨ #CQIPHPProjectIndonesia2026 #CoffeeProcessing #CQI #SpecialtyCoffee #IndonesiaCoffee

Who attends CQI Processing Professional (QP2) courses and why? We are in Sumatra this week with producers who are representing eight out of twelve coffee producing regions of Indonesia: Central Java, West Java, West Sumatra, Central Sulawesi, North Sulawesi, East Java, Aceh, and South Tapanuli. Each region is unique and all together they compose the Indonesian coffee community. Though the participants’ average age is 36, they are already experienced, and in some cases, award-winning producers. Why would they bother attending the course? 1️⃣ A desire to learn science and latest techniques to improve their coffee quality. Producers are continuously faced with new demands from the market, and tools and techniques are evolving. 2️⃣ To equip themselves with tools designed for today’s market. Climate, geopolitical and economic challenges abound in coffee, and investing in education can help reduce risk and increase sustainability. 3️⃣ To inform their economic decision-making around different markets.  How do you decide to use a particular processing method and why? Is your market asking for something that requires a new investment, either in equipment or training? Are they pricing to cover costs and ensure enough profit to reinvest? 4️⃣ To develop their peer network. These producers, and other CQI Processing Professional course participants around the world, are forming professional connections that will serve them well in the future. As they face business challenges, they now have a new group to turn to for sharing ideas and solving problems.    Every CQI course is rigorous and well-structured, but in the end, it is the producers who take these learnings into the field and apply them to their own coffee and reality. They use the tools and knowledge in the way that is best for their farms and businesses, working to improve quality while adapting to the future needs of the coffee industry.
