All the COOK signs outside our shops and concessions are handmade for us by the lovely folk at @elvisandkresse . They’re crafted from recycled scaffolding boards and, when they start looking a bit weather-beaten, they’re sent back for a repair and fresh coat of varnish rather than replaced. Which we rather love.
Making our signs is actually just a side hustle for them. Their main thing? Beautiful sustainable luxury accessories made from rescued fire hose and other materials that might otherwise end up in landfill. They’re also fellow a fellow #BCorp, and co-founder Kresse was one of Cartier’s Women’s Initiative Impact Award winners earlier this year 👏

We even have a dedicated kitchen where chefs refine existing recipes and create new ones. Recently, they turned to our #1 bestseller: Lasagne al Forno. These changes aren’t made lightly, and the team made and ate more lasagnes than you can shake a breadstick at.

COOK Thame is now officially up and running at 5 Upper High St … pop in and say hello if you’re passing (there are plenty of tasters waiting…). A big thank you to Richard Shackleton for cutting the ribbon today - a local community first responder who gives his time to support 999 and 111 calls, often first on the scene, and sharing lifesaving skills with others through CPR and defib training.

Hands down the loudest events we do at COOK are our Retail Collectives. Shop leaders are simply social creatures. Laughter, chatter, hugs. It’s the spirit of community and connection that energises every COOK shop in the land – all 117 of them. Our latest Collective was no exception. 120 remarkable retail folks gathered at Kings House in London to celebrate another great year and prepare for a summer of exciting new initiatives. It was a simple reminder of the fact that it’s great people who make great retail. We’re so lucky to have so many of them working with us. A massive thank you to each and every one of them.

Our simple approach? Giving people who’ve been in prison a fair chance at getting a job. We’re sponsoring the first Fair Chance Week in the hope that more companies will see the huge opportunity there is to offer jobs to people who’ve been in prison.
We’ve spent more than a decade running our RAW Talent scheme, breaking down barriers to employment for people after prison, homelessness, mental ill health or other challenges. More than 250 people have come to work with us at COOK as a result.
Yes, those jobs have changed their lives and those of everybody they’re connected to. But they’ve also changed our business for the better. Our culture is richer. Our team is more committed. Our business is stronger. And 250 people are now contributing to the economy, not draining it.
