Layers of acrylic washes of @goldenpaints give rich depth of color. One feature is how the washes can suck into the crevasses formed by the leather tools. I, at least, could not duplicate this effect other ways. On display @theclassengrill

After a 35-year career in environmental restoration, Jim’s creative journey began as a father-son project exploring western-style leather tooling—and it’s grown into something truly special. From intricately tooled leather (even an entire hide!) to richly textured block prints pulled from those very pieces, his work carries a sense of care, curiosity, and craftsmanship you can feel the moment you see it. It’s thoughtful, tactile, and unlike anything else on the walls right now.
You’ll have a chance to meet Jim in person at a meet & greet on May 16th from 12–1pm at Classen Grill—come grab lunch, experience the work up close, and hear the story behind it.

Kristin Hoover Gentry @kreativenative is a Two Spirit Choctaw artist whose work explores Indigenous identity, kinship, and cultural continuity within contemporary urban spaces.
Rooted in Choctaw worldview and lived experience, Gentry’s practice centers storytelling as a form of resistance, healing, and reclamation. Through visual art, curatorial work, and community-based projects, they examine how Indigenous people carry ancestral knowledge while navigating systems shaped by
colonization, displacement, and survival.
Gentry’s work reflects the tension and beauty found at the intersections of tradition and modernity, queerness and Indigeneity, personal memory and collective history. Their art invites viewers to recognize Indigenous presence as living and evolving rather than historical or static.
By foregrounding Two Spirit and urban Indigenous narratives, Gentry creates space for visibility, belonging, and generational healing.
