Yesterday’s candle making workshop at Choorma Studio was SO much fun. 🤩
Honestly… we wish you could smell the studio right now because it’s still so fragrant from all the candles everyone made yesterday.
We went in thinking candle making would be easy breezy… but DAMN. There are actually so many technical details to pay attention to- temperatures, timing, fragrance ratios, wax behaviour. One small mistake and so many things can go wrong. It was such an informative session while also being super calming and wholesome at the same time.
Don’t miss the last image to see all the beautiful candles everyone made 👀
Huge thank you to everyone who came and spent their evening with us 💛
And the biggest thank you to Mekhla for conducting such a thoughtful, warm, and knowledge packed workshop ✨
If you missed this one, there are many more fun evenings coming your way. The Choorma Side Quest series is going to continue with many more workshop sessions at Choorma Studio.

On 10th May 2026, the first Indie Publishers Meetup was hosted at Image & Narratives Lab, Department of Design IIT Delhi - a small gathering of people working across comics, publishing, illustration, and visual storytelling to discuss the production side of independent publishing in India.
What made the session meaningful was the honesty of the conversation. Beyond talking about ideas and creative practice, we discussed the systems around independent comics — distribution, visibility, sustainability, realistic goal-setting, and the need for a more mature and long-term approach to building this field. One recurring thought was the importance of identifying and sharing potential venues like bookshops, retailers, and spaces that can actively support and circulate independent comics and publications. Another important discussion centred around setting achievable targets as creators: not necessarily chasing large sales numbers immediately, but building consistent, realistic goals that help practices grow sustainably over time.
Independent publishing should continue to celebrate experimentation and the joy of making, but it also deserves a stronger ecosystem, clearer structures, and deeper collaboration between creators, distributors and retailers. Conversations like these feel like an important step in that direction.
The meeting concluded with a shared takeaway: the importance of building an accessible knowledge network for independent comic creators and developing a feasible targeting plan to support the long-term growth and sustainability of their work. Ultimately, every effort by independent comics creators should translate into greater visibility for the medium, making it more appealing to readers.
Thank you to everyone who joined and contributed so generously to the discussion:

If you’re planning a wholesome, creative evening, this one’s for you!
Share it with your friends or book for yourself.
Indie publishing often happens through small print runs, personal experiments, and self-driven distribution - but the questions around how we actually produce, sustain, and grow this work remain shared. This meetup is a small, focused gathering for people working with print, comics, and visual narratives to come together and talk specifically about the production side of indie publishing - what it takes to make the work, the decisions behind formats and materials, the realities of cost and distribution, and the challenges we don’t always discuss openly. If you’re seriously engaged in this space and looking for thoughtful, grounded conversation, this is for you. We’re keeping it limited to 10 participants to allow for depth and exchange. Join us at IIT Delhi on 10th May, 5–7 PM. Register via the form (link in bio).
Animela 2026, Mumbai, what an incredible experience it was!
I had the chance to set up an artist table, meet fellow artists, readers, and animation enthusiasts, and share my comics and @inklabzine with so many curious readers and passionate creators.
One of the highlights was being part of a session Drawing from Self where I share some stories from my comics African Caravan () alongside some truly experienced and inspiring artists from the industry. @ninasabnanis@vishwajyotighosh , Aniceto Pereira.
Listening, sharing perspectives, and discussing the craft of storytelling and animation was both humbling and energizing.
Grateful for everyone who stopped by the table, flipped through the comics, had conversations, and supported independent creators.

Here’s to more stories, more art, and more spaces like this for creators to connect.
