My new song, “Pictures from the Past” is out now and streaming on all platforms.
At my grandma’s 100th birthday party, we were flipping through old family photos and I was struck by one of my young mother and me. I’d seen the photo before, but it felt suddenly new. I looked at myself, about 4 or 5 years old. I looked at my young mother and took a deep breathe – I was now closer in age to her in that photo than myself.
A week later on one of our tours, I was kept awake by my bandmate Stephen’s snoring (the first and last time we ever shared a room). The photo came to mind and I quickly typed out the entire song on my phone at 3am surrounded by the sound of a human wood chipper.
It’s a song of nostalgia, and coming of age. I guess all of my songs are.
