NEON has released an exclusive first look at ‘Clarissa,’ the upcoming film from directors Arie and Chuko Esiri. This reimagining of Virginia Woolf’s classic novel ‘Mrs. Dalloway’ brings the drama to the vibrant streets of modern-day Lagos, Nigeria.
The ensemble cast includes Sophie Okonedo, David Oyelowo, Ayo Edebiri, India Amarteifio, Toheeb Jimoh, and Fortune Nwafor.
According to the official logline, the story follows Clarissa (Okonedo) as she prepares to host a party at her home in Lagos. Over the course of a single night, an unexpected encounter with once-intimate friends from her youth sparks a bittersweet reckoning. As the group reflects on their shared past, they are forced to confront long-buried memories of intricate relationships, passionate love, and lost aspirations.
‘Clarissa’ is set to make its world premiere tomorrow, May 16, at the Cannes Film Festival.

Will Smith To Lead High-Stakes Prison Thriller ‘Supermax’ For Amazon MGM
Will Smith is heading to the world’s most secure prison for his next major role. The Oscar winner is set to star in David Gordon Green’s upcoming action-thriller ‘Supermax’ as Rex, one of two FBI agents tasked with investigating a high-profile murder within the facility. The project marks a notable shift for Smith, serving as his first non-franchise studio film in recent years.
Amazon MGM Studios locked in the film’s future this week, jumping ahead of the competition to buy the global rights for around $70 million just before the Cannes Film Festival—underscoring the major interest in the Miramax project. While further plot details remain undisclosed, casting is currently underway for Smith’s partner—a female FBI agent who will join him in navigating the high-security investigation.
The screenplay was written by David Weil and David J. Rosen, both of whom will also serve as executive producers. The production team includes Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman for The Picture Company, while Will Smith and Adam Fishbach will produce through Westbrook Inc.
Executive producers include Natalie Laine Williams, along with Miramax’s leadership: CEO Jonathan Glickman, President of Film Alexandra Loewy, COO Thom Zadra, and SVP Spencer Ela.
The deal was brokered by CAA Media Finance, and production is expected to begin this August.

Spike Lee Celebrates The 32nd Anniversary Of ‘Crooklyn’
Yesterday marked the 32nd anniversary of Academy Award-winning director Spike Lee’s 1994 classic ‘Crooklyn.’ As one of the most endearing portrayals of Black family life in early 1970s Brooklyn, the semi-autobiographical film stars Alfre Woodard, Delroy Lindo, and Zelda Harris, alongside Carlton Williams, Sharif Rashed, Chris Knowings, Tse-Mach Washington, and more.
Reflecting on the film’s deeply personal roots, Lee took to Instagram to share its origin: “The original idea came from my siblings—my sister Joie and the youngest sibling Cinqué Lee,” Lee shared. “The original title of their script was ‘Hot Peas and Butter.’ We got together and ‘Crooklyn’ came from that. This is also my most personal film because this story is of the Lees growing up in the mid-70s in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.”

David Jonsson Joins Gracie Abrams, Connor Storrie And Tom Burke In A24’s ‘Please’
David Jonsson joins the cast of Halina Reijn’s upcoming A24 feature, Please. He will appear alongside singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams, Connor Storrie, and fellow British actor Tom Burke in the mysterious new project.
Reijn, known for directing Bodies Bodies Bodies and the Nicole Kidman-led thriller Babygirl, is once again partnering with A24 as both writer and director. While details surrounding Please remain tightly guarded, the film adds another high-profile credit to Jonsson’s rapidly growing résumé.
Over the last year, Jonsson has continued to emerge as one of the industry’s most sought-after young actors. He recently received acclaim for his performances in The Long Walk and the indie prison drama Wasteman, which he also executive produced through his production company greyarea.
His upcoming slate remains packed with major projects, including Colman Domingo’s directorial debut Scandalous, where Jonsson will portray Sammy Davis Jr. opposite Sydney Sweeney.
