AKG C414 B-ULS - There’s a well known saying amongst studio folk. ”Grab some 414’s…the older the better” - This pair of 414’s are of the B-ULS flavour. They’re second only to, and the younger sibling of, the EB model of 414 which now warrant a remortgage if you wanted to get your hands on just one and there’s a good reason for that. - This early era of 414’s are possibly some of the most versatile mics out there. You can fairly confidently chuck them up against most sources with their plethora of polar patterns and PAD’s and expect the unmistakably clear yet humble sound only found with these early models of AKG mics.

The Melodium 42Bn - Based upon the original Melodium 42B developed by Charles Boutelleau and Émile Furn about 80 years ago where this imposing microphone enjoyed a long career in its native France. - In this case, @kerwax_studio loved their Melodiums so much that they embarked on a painstaking recreation. The new Melodium 42Bn is still almost entirely manufactured in France with only minimal yet welcome changes in the design. For example, the new mic has an XLR socket, and an output transformer better suited to modern studio life than the originals’ 50Ω transformer.

The Hammond S6 - A beautiful sounding polyphonic tube organ from the late 50’s. Full of character with a fleet of valves to match. - On the left of the main keys scroll it has accordion style buttons used to pad chords. Partner this with the two bass pedals; one plays the root note, the other adds a fifth. It quickly becomes a very dreamy sounding instrument - Rarely seen or heard of but you can listen to one singing away on the track ‘Blue Jay Way’ from The Beatles, Magical Mystery Tour album.
