Saturday Night was more than a concert — it was a meeting of memory, faith, and sound. Hearing Richard Smallwood’s “Total Praise” rise through the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in partnership with Ebenezer Baptist Church felt like history speaking in harmony. In a turbulent moment socially and politically, this collaboration reminded us that faith and culture have always been engines of survival and transformation. Total Praise isn’t just a song — it’s a modern psalm. A declaration forged in hardship that continues to call us upward. Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I kept returning to his words: “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” Grateful for voices and leadership that held this moment with care — Pastor Raphael Warnock, Daniel Moore, Dr. Patrice Turner, and the legacy Richard Smallwood has given the world. For me, the trumpet’s role — shaping the arc, lifting the climax, and releasing that final high concert D-flat — felt like a collective exhale. A sound of praise pushed all the way to the ceiling.
