We are delighted to welcome Dr Ian Williams to Beyond the Book Festival at @BrightonFringe on 16 May 2026.
Doctor, award-winning comics artist, and educator, Ian is a pioneer of Graphic Medicine, the field exploring the connection between healthcare and storytelling through comics. He founded the Graphic Medicine platform in 2007 and co authored the Eisner nominated Graphic Medicine Manifesto.
His acclaimed graphic novels The Bad Doctor and The Lady Doctor combine medicine, humanity, and dark humour, with his third instalment, The Sick Doctor, arriving in 2026.
Ian’s work has appeared in The Guardian, been commissioned by the Wellcome Collection, and featured in exhibitions including Dementia Journeys at the Science Gallery London. His original artwork is held in the collection of the Billy Ireland Cartoon Museum.
Join us in Brighton for a day of bold ideas, powerful stories, and conversations that explore storytelling in all its forms.
Tickets available now. Link in bio.

"Don't play what's there, play what's not there."
Everything can be music.
