The liquid light shows at The Avalon β pioneered by light artist Bill Ham and other Family Dog collaborators β were a defining part of what made the venue so influential in the 1960s. The shows used projectors, film loops, and layers of colored oils, water, alcohol, and dyes sandwiched between glass plates. Operators manipulated these liquids live, creating constantly shifting, abstract projections that covered the entire room.
Today, that tradition continues through Lance Gordon of Mad Alchemy @themadalchemistliquidliteshow who has helped to preserve and evolve this medium, bringing authentic, live liquid light shows to modern audiences across the country.
At The Avalon, we work with Lance to offer these original-style liquid light shows as part of select events β giving clients and guests the rare opportunity to experience this historic art form in the space where it helped make history π¨β¨
