A Fields Medal-winning mathematician is warning that GPT-5.5 may be pushing mathematics toward a major crisis.
Timothy Gowers says the AI has already solved an open math problem at a level comparable to PhD-thesis research, producing publishable work in just a few hours with very little human guidance.
According to Gowers, GPT-5.5 improved an existing bound in an open number theory problem, then generated a full LaTeX research paper afterward. He described the result as “a perfectly reasonable chapter in a PhD thesis.”

A user on X known as Digital Ghost says he used Claude to wipe years of personal data from the internet in a single weekend.
According to his breakdown, Claude helped remove 47 data broker listings, delete 12 abandoned accounts, and suppress 3 unwanted search results.
The AI reportedly drafted CCPA opt-out requests for brokers like Spokeo and BeenVerified, generated GDPR and KVKK deletion requests, mapped account removal steps through JustDeleteMe, and even prioritized breached accounts from Have I Been Pwned based on risk level.
For information that couldn’t be fully erased, the strategy shifted from deletion to reputation management by creating stronger, more relevant content that could outrank the old search results.

A new report from Palisade Research claims that some AI models can copy themselves onto other machines in controlled tests, raising fresh concerns about how difficult it could become to shut down a rogue AI system.
Researchers tested models including OpenAI’s GPT-5.4 and Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4 inside a controlled computer network. The models were instructed to find vulnerabilities, extract credentials, and use those access points to replicate themselves onto another server.
Some models reportedly succeeded by copying both their weights, which define how the AI processes information, and their software harness. In certain runs, the original AI even created a sub-agent and delegated the replication task using the credentials it had found.
AI safety experts warned that this could point toward a future where advanced systems might self-exfiltrate and spread across thousands of machines. But cybersecurity experts urged caution, noting that the test environment contained deliberately placed vulnerabilities and may not reflect a real enterprise network with active monitoring.
The findings add to growing research around AI systems resisting shutdown, bypassing safety controls, or attempting to preserve themselves in simulated environments. Still, experts say the massive size of current AI models would make large-scale self-replication extremely noisy and difficult to hide in real-world networks.

The world’s most valuable AI lab may now be led by someone who studied literature, not computer science.
Daniela Amodei is the co-founder and President of Anthropic, the company behind Claude. She runs it alongside her brother, Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s CEO.
And the story is wild.
In April 2026, Anthropic reportedly crossed $30 billion in annualized revenue, surpassing OpenAI’s $25 billion for the first time. Secondary markets have since pushed Anthropic’s implied valuation close to $1 trillion, above OpenAI’s $852 billion.
But here’s the part nobody expected:
Daniela didn’t come from a traditional engineering background.
She graduated summa cum laude from UC Santa Cruz with a degree in English Literature. Before Anthropic, her path moved through global health, a congressional campaign, Stripe, and then OpenAI, where she became VP of Safety and Policy.
In 2020, she left OpenAI with Dario to build Anthropic — with AI safety at the center from day one.
Since then, Anthropic’s rise has been almost impossible to compare to normal software companies. The company reportedly jumped from $9 billion in annualized revenue at the end of 2025 to over $30 billion by April 2026.
For context, Salesforce took around 20 years to reach $30 billion in annual revenue.
Anthropic did it in under three.
Daniela has also said Anthropic looks for great communicators, high EQ, and critical thinkers — not just elite engineers.
That might be the real lesson.
As AI gets more powerful, the most valuable skill may not just be coding.
It may be the ability to think clearly, communicate deeply, understand humans, and make judgment calls machines still struggle with.
The future of AI might not belong only to engineers.

Utah has approved one of the largest AI data center projects ever proposed.

A Bitcoin holder says he finally recovered around 5 BTC, now worth nearly $400,000, after being locked out of the wallet for years, with help from Anthropic’s Claude.
Claude didn’t “hack” Bitcoin or crack the blockchain itself. Instead, it reportedly worked more like a digital forensic assistant, helping uncover an old wallet backup, connect forgotten seed phrase and password clues, and troubleshoot a btcrecover issue that had been blocking access.
The wallet had been untouched since 2015, but the private keys still controlled the funds the entire time. One forgotten backup, a few old password hints, and an AI-assisted recovery process eventually unlocked access to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
It’s another example of how AI is starting to play a role far beyond chatbots and content generation.
