A former yakuza willingly yet sorrowfully, displaying some of his ink. I’d led a few friends to a karaoke bar following a rooftop wedding and fancy dinner in Motomachi, an upscale neighborhood that’s a stone’s throw away from a more rough and tumble area. We were welcomed into this bar and given way too generous pours of whiskey before the best Japanese speaker among us allowed us to mingle and this gentleman to give us a skin-deep look into his former life.

“Get in, Power Pup. We’ve got a city to save.” “Ok, but let’s make haste. Mom says it’s nap time in five.”

Two green sanctuaries inside the pulsating megacity of Bangkok are Lumphini park and Benjakitti park, now connected this month by ‘Green Bridge’. Benjakitti’s walkway was completed in 2022, and gives panoramic views of the city amid a now rich ecosystem where was once just swampland. The monitor lizards of Lumphini date back millions of years, and arrived in the park from the wetlands in 1920, when it was established. #lumphinipark #monitorlizard #urbanpark #benjakittipark #bangkoklife

The ground war had begun two days prior to my landing in Bangkok. 2 days earlier in Krabi, I’d witnessed drive by soakings, ice buckets mercilessly forced on innocents, and fire engines depleted of life saving supplies just for the Songkran war machine to keep marching forward. Now, day 3 and the final day of this hell, which stretched to neighboring Laos and Cambodia, and I found myself in the thick of it. Siam Paragon and Siam Square in central Bangkok, the last bastions of hope and civility in a country losing its mind, became a scene of chaos, confusion and despair. Whilst in the countryside, you may have been spared if you pleaded for safe passage onwards, here the rules of engagement were completely torn up. It was a bloodbath. The worst part about it was that some people appeared to be genuinely enjoying themselves. What had we become in such a short space of time? Thailand was to report up to 242 deaths and over a thousand injured. Myself, I narrowly survived having almost slipped due to some poorly-manufactured fake crocs. These photographs are my witness statement to the events of April 15th, 2016. The horror, the horror. #bangkoksongkran #songkran2026 #siamsongkran

Exploring Chiang Mai province on the beautiful Honda CT125. 1. Enjoying the silence in Doi Inthanon National Park. A grueling motorway endurance ride which was thoroughly rewarded. 2. A test drive to the nearest town to warm it up. 3. The view from the end (or beginning) of the Samoeng Loop, a one day drive through the mountains. #chiangmaitravel #chiangmailife #samoengloop #doiinthanonnationalpark #northernthailand
