On 7 May 2026, I had the privilege of anchoring the ICSID Training Session in Abuja, with focused discussions on international arbitration and investor-State dispute settlement (ISDS).
The conversations continued at the ISDS Symposium on “Investor-State Dispute Settlement in Sub-Saharan Africa: Looking Ahead,” which brought together government stakeholders, practitioners, investors, and industry leaders to reflect on the future of investment dispute resolution across the region.
It was a privilege engaging with distinguished speakers including Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi; Martina Polasek, Secretary-General of ICSID; Ade Odunsi, Executive Director of Sahara Group; and Ikechukwu Ekwueme, Vice President, Renaissance Africa Energy.
One theme remained constant throughout the engagements: the future of investment protection in Africa will depend not only on legal frameworks, but also on institutional credibility, balanced regulation, and meaningful engagement between States and investors.
Grateful for the opportunity to contribute to conversations shaping the evolving landscape of investment governance and dispute resolution across the continent.
