Mark 26.5 for our next global book club together with the lovely ladies of the amazing @the_ms_informed feminist book club at the cosiest (and maybe most sex-positive) English book store in Kreuzberg: @ivallansbooks
This time we will read and discuss âThe Sex Lives of African Womenâ by Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah. The book uniquely amplifies individual women from across the African continent and its global diaspora, as they speak of their diverse experiences of sex, sexualities, and relationships.
Many of the women who tell their stories in this collection recall the journeys they have travelled in order to own their own sexualities. They do this by grappling with experiences of sexual abuse, resisting the religious edicts of their childhood, and by asserting their sexual power.
From finding queer community in Egypt to living a polyamorous life in Senegal to understanding the intersectionality of religion and pleasure in Cameroon to choosing to leave relationships that no longer serve them, these narratives are as individual and illuminating as the women who share them.
As in all our book clubs books it provides a deep insight into womenâs quest for freedom and to live a truly liberated life.

We are BEYOND excited to announce our first feminist global novels book club of 2026!
For this occasion, we chose an incredibly rich memoir called âThe Manicuristâs Daughterâ by Susan Lieu @susanlieu a Vietnamese American author, activist and performer, whose work explores intergenerational trauma, impossible beauty standards, dysfunctional families and unresolved griefs.
This book follows Susanâs story as she searches for answers after her mother dies during plastic surgery. Refugees from the Vietnam War, her family escaped to California in the 1980s after five failed attempts. Upon arrival, Susanâs mother was their savvy, charismatic North Star, setting up two successful nail salons and orchestrating every success â until Susan was eleven. That year, her mother died from a botched tummy tuck. After the funeral, no one was ever allowed to talk about her or what had happened.
Jup itâs a lot of rich and timely topics to discuss in our lilâ female-feminist book circle! What is extra special: Our book club will take place at a Vietnamese-owned nail salon (including some treats). Exact date will be announced soon (but it will be end of April).
Until then; get your copy of the book, block social media and immerse yourself in the story!
You can find âThe Manicuristâs Daughterâ at local bookstores such as @shesaidbooks (13 âŹ) as well as for free at the library Libby App! If anyone canât find the book we will have some copies at our office in NeukĂślln to pick up too!
