@countrysportsireland š„Another certificate in the bag!
Iāve now successfully completed the 2-day Deer Stalking Course with
@countrysportsireland , and what a fantastic weekend it was. The course was incredibly informative and engaging, and Iāve come away with a much deeper understanding of deer stalking, shooting, and harvesting of deer in Ireland.
Over the weekend, we covered the different deer species found in Ireland, their behaviours, associated diseases, and the laws and regulations surrounding deer management and ethical shooting.
On day two, I completed the practical shooting assessment using a .243 calibre rifle kindly provided by Midlands Shooting Centre Ireland, shooting from prone, kneeling, and standing positions at various distances. Delighted to say I performed very well and also passed the written assessment with flying colours.
In the coming months, Iāll also be attending the Meat Handling Certificate programme with Country Sports Ireland to further develop my skills in processing wild game responsibly and making full use of ethically harvested deer for food.
Thereās something incredibly rewarding about harvesting, preparing, and cooking truly wild, free-roaming food for yourself. For me, this ties closely with the sustainable, off-grid lifestyle I value and promoteāunderstanding where your food comes from and being capable of providing it yourself.
Rural pursuits, hunting, and countryside traditions have long been an important part of Irelandās culture and heritage, and I believe these skills and traditions should continue to be respected and carried forward into the future.
A big thank you to Country Sports Ireland for delivering such a fantastic course, and a special thanks to Midlands Shooting Centre, Blue Ball, Offaly, for their support throughout the practical assessment.
I will now be looking at various rifle manufacturers & calibres to make a decision on what one i will purchase.
But I'm leaning towards a .270 benelli lupo .
Thanks very much Ronan & all the team
