Happy IDAHOBIT.
For too long, the narrative has been that our identity is “un-African,” an “import,” or a “disorder.” Today, we burn those narratives. We are the descendants of this land, the builders of its future, and the heartbeat of its resilience.
We aren’t asking for permission to exist anymore. We are claiming our space, our history, and our future.
TODAY’S MISSION:
1. Comment: What are you reclaiming for yourself today?
2. Share this to celebrate our existence, our history, and our power.
3. Stand tall. You are exactly where you are meant to be.

Who is missing from your history books?
If our history books are blank, our future feels limited. Representation isn’t just an aesthetic, it’s the blueprint of who we are allowed to become.
Before 1990, the world defined us as a “disorder.” Today, we write our own stories. We aren’t just filling in the blanks; we’re rewriting the entire book.
TODAY’S TASK:
1. Pause.
2. Search for one LGBTQ+ trailblazer you never learned about.
3. Drop their name below and let us build our own history book right here.

We’ve been talking about shedding our armor, but you can’t shed the armor if you don’t have a safe space to be yourself.
Representation is that space. It’s the mirror that tells you: “You are not a disorder. You are not a disruption. You are human.”
This IDAHOBIT, we’re demanding more than just “seeing” ourselves. We’re demanding to be recognized as equals at the heart of our democracy.
JOIN THE COUNTDOWN:
We are days away from May 17th.
1. Comment: Who was the first person who made you feel “seen”?
2. Follow for tomorrow’s continuation.
3. Share this to keep the movement growing.

We love to talk about the “right to speak,” but we rarely talk about the “privilege of being heard.”
If your ability to express yourself depends on how “palatable” you are to others, you aren’t free; you’re just being managed.
IDAHOBIT is our yearly reminder that our identity is not a medical condition, a political debate, or a disruption. It’s a human right.
JOIN THE COUNTDOWN:
We are days away from May 17th.
1. Comment: What does “freedom of expression” look like to you?
2. Follow for the next step in the countdown.
3. Share this to start a real conversation today.

Freedom of expression is the bedrock of democracy. For the LGBTQ+ community, it wasn’t always a right. It was a struggle against pathologization.
On May 17, 1990, we reclaimed our voices from the medical books. This IDAHOBIT, we aren’t just celebrating; we are asserting that our right to express who we are is non-negotiable.
TODAY’S TASK:
1. Save this carousel to remember the 3 pillars.
2. Comment one way you feel “free” in your own life today.

Freedom shouldn’t cost your safety.
We keep hearing: “Just be yourself.” But what if “yourself” isn’t safe in your workplace? Your home? Your neighborhood?
The goal of #IDAHOBIT2026 isn’t just to celebrate being free, it’s to demand that our society provides the safety necessary for that freedom to exist for everyone.
Safety is the foundation. Freedom is the result. Let’s build both.
#IDAHOBIT #AtTheHeartOfDemocracy #SafetyVsFreedom
Freedom is a hollow word without safety.
We talk about being “free,” but in Nigeria, visibility often comes with a price tag. From the systemic weight of the SSMPA to the fear of digital blackmail and targeted raids, the “Safety vs. Freedom” trap is a daily reality for many in our community.
We cannot celebrate a freedom that requires us to look over our shoulders. True progress isn’t about the right to exist, it’s about the right to exist safely.
If you are in a position of privilege, your job is to build the fence, not just watch the sunset.
We are moving toward May 17th with our eyes wide open.

Visibility isn’t a luxury. It’s a right.
We often talk about “getting visible” as a goal, but we rarely talk about the cost of entry. Too often, our society only rewards visibility when it’s “safe” or “respectable.”
But the heart of IDAHOBIT and our democracy is protecting those who are the most at risk for simply existing. If our advocacy doesn’t include the people who have the most to lose, it’s not advocacy. It’s just aesthetics.
Who is an advocate, creator, or activist that you think deserves more eyes on them? Tag them in the comments below. Let’s pass the mic.

Visibility is the most radical act of courage. It’s not just about wearing a rainbow pin; it’s about demanding that society sees, respects, and protects everyone.
This IDAHOBIT, we’re not just being seen, we’re being heard.

Today is Red Dress Day, a National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2S).
Indigenous women and 2SLGBTQIA+ people continue to face disproportionate levels of violence, and for too long, their families have been met with silence. Today, we refuse to look away.
Solidarity means action:
1. Wear red to show your support.
2. Amplify Indigenous-led organizations.
3. Demand justice for the stolen and the families still waiting for answers.
We must hold these stories in the light until we see real systemic change. Keep speaking their names.

Yesterday was about the countdown. Today is about the why.
For a long time, the world tried to “cure” us. On May 17, 1990, that changed. But IDAHOBIT isn’t just a history lesson, it’s a reminder that democracy only works when everyone is safe.
Our 2026 theme is “At the Heart of Democracy.” Because when we stand against hate, we’re standing up for the freedoms we all share.
Tell us in the comments: What does “inclusion” look like to you in your daily life?
Let’s keep the momentum building.
