Erick #artvsartist2022 This year is finally coming to a close and I still don’t know how to summarize it or where to begin, even now I just know I’m still writing my story as I go, from the start I didn’t know where I was going, I was aimless & only lived for the moment, spent my time distracted & hitting bars after. living day by day, spending my time doing things I’m not proud off. Letting my trauma get to me & hurting those I loved, and proving those who hurt me they were right. I came to a point where I had no desire to truly confront it. I won’t tell you that something magical happened or some awakening over night, it was a hard process to change and I relapsed a lot, constantly giving up, but deep within I knew I could do this. I was already drawing by this time but, it was just to pass the time but little did I know this would turn out to be the answer that was always in front of me. It wasn’t about changing but resurfacing the value art has always played in my life. It was my escape, my voice, a passion begging to bloom again, and I was willing to sacrifice, give up the things that were holding me back, & learn to stay inside. I began disciplining myself, with temptation breathing down my neck every time I wanted to call it quits. I slowly gave up bad habits, unlocking the love I had for this since I was a child and regretful why I ever chose to forget it. In a lot of ways, it saved me & now I’m just telling my story with every piece. This is my 1st year doing this professionally & I’ve seen the fruits of my labor sooner that I ever thought possible. The amazing support from countless people who have messaged me and have told me personal stories & connected to the artwork. Ive made great friends w/similar visions that have inspired me & taught me. This year was full of blessings and fulfilled opportunities & I can’t help but think where would I be if I chose to not pursue this.
