The search for near-unfindable Australian micro pressings continues…It’s amazing that this original 1969 local edition of the second SILVER APPLES album exists, especially considering that the record was promptly withdrawn in the US due to the infamous lawsuit by PAN AM who didn’t appreciate their aircraft being depicted crashed on the back cover. The litigation proved to be too much and caused the demise of KAPP records and the Silver Apples band not long after release. Somehow it managed to get pressed here! (The only original edition outside the US/Canada) Get on down to @kittysomerset tonight. I’m gonna play it. (8pm-Late). Thanks to @licoricepie for turning up such incredible things. #SilverApples #ElectronicMusic #Psych #RareRecords

The Roundtable assist the family/estate of Don Harper, the Australian violinist and composer who had a long career working in the British Television and Library music industry throughout the 1960/70s. He composed for Doctor Who and other BBC shows, De Wolfe, KPM, Jospeh Weinberger and other Library labels.. his music has been sampled many times in Hop Hop over the years and famously used in the library-laden soundtrack for George Romero‘s 1978 Horror masterpiece DAWN OF THE DEAD. Recently we had a request come in to clear a sample for the latest Kayne West/Ye track ‘King’. It features a segment taken from ELECTROSONIC KPM 1104 (an album often credited to Delia Derbyshire but actually composed by Harper). Take a listen and try to spot it 🤔 Personally I prefer how his track THOUGHTFUL POPPER 🎵 has been used. Speaking of KPM, we have lots of cheaper titles 🔥FOR SALE🔥 at the moment. We have a list ready to send. DM #DonHarper #KPM #LibraryMusic #HipHopSamples #TheRoundtable

#45Friday (Week 7) A Pharoah meditation to end the week on. A French-only Stateside single with tracks sourced from the Tauhid and Karma albums. 🔥 FOR SALE 🔥 HOT CITY BUMP BAND - Come Together. An Australian funk classic. My dad was friends with these guys back in the day, in particular the bandleader Chuck McKinney (seated) and his wife Maggie (left), Chuck came to Australia from Chicago in the late 60s when he joined the Australian cast of the Hair Musical. (Along with other future successful singers Marcia Hines and Sharon Redd). Sought after for the cover of Jimmy Castors B-Boy anthem ‘It’s Just Begun’ but also check the version of Earth Wind & Fires’ ‘Time Is On Your Side’. First pressing with the textured sleeve. #45Friday (Week 6) This weekend we will be offering the JAZZ JOURNAL magazines for sale (info coming) so to stay on theme here is a rare piece of 60s UK jazz. No not a forgotten recording from the Motor City 5, this EmCee Five was a group led by (M)ike (C)arr, brother of trumpeter and Nucleus bandleader Ian Carr. A brief set of characteristically moody British jazz from the esteemed Lansdowne series. According to the liners the B side suite (Prelude) was the theme music for a TV arts program. Online research also reveals that the cover was designed (uncredited) by future Animals/War frontman Eric Burdon during his art school days. #EmCeeFive #UKJazz #IanCarr #TheRoundtable

#45Friday (Week 5) I’ve told this story on here before but in light of a little event I’m hosting tonight I figured an African record is in order. About 10 years ago I purchased a handful of records from an elderly English guy who was now living in Melbourne. Turns out he was head music buyer at the Unilever department stores in Lagos during the 1960s/70s. He personally knew Fela Kuti who would provide him advance copies of all his latest releases. He didn’t have many records left except a few test pressings and promos…. an original test pressing of Afrodisiac, a Nigerian copy of the banned Na Poi album, a few Chief Ebenezer Obey 10”s, a super rare Beatles export pressing (Yellow Submarine) and this lonely Nigerian white label of the WHO’RE YOU single. I hooked a friend up with the rare Fela LPs but considering the special provenance I had to keep a small momento! If you’re local get down to @kittysomerset tonight where myself and some pals will be playing these kind of records. @cassawarrior @jumpz1 @deeep_space . Event info in our story. #FelaKuti #AfroBeat #Funk #TheRoundtable
