It might be a point of personal bias, but it feels safe to say that Australia has a pretty great track record of producing garage rock and punk acts. This is especially apparent in the continuing waves created by the rise of diy, lo-fi Australian punk in late 2010s and early 2020s which has seen acts like Gee Tee, Ghoulies and Billiam come to international notability. A band that really bridges the gap across Australia’s punk track record is The Moids, who’s combination of 80s Oi and hardcore with modern lo-fi sound, along with their unapologetic commitment to social and political causes, has helped them develop a refreshingly authentic identity at a time when the scene, and the world as a whole, really needs it. I had the chance to sit down with Charlie (vocals), Cam (bass), Patty (guitar) and Tama (drums) on a Saturday afternoon to discuss the project, its origins, neo-liberal punks, punching Nazis and much more.
