Now on view: Spit White Lime, a two-person exhibition by KEEYA and Angelika Wallace-Whitfield. “Once upon a time, was a good ol’ time, monkey chew tobacco and he SPIT WHITE LIME.” Drawing from the rhythm of Bahamian oral tradition, this exhibition reflects on storytelling as a living force—shaping identity, memory, and place. Through layered mixed media practices, the artists reimagine inherited narratives as something carried, performed, and continuously transformed. The gallery becomes a space of call and response—where folklore, gesture, and material converge to honor what is passed down and what evolves. On view at The Current Gallery (Rotunda Shops) through May 24th, 2026. Admission is free and open to the public. Operating Hours: Sunday–Tuesday: 10 AM–6 PM Wednesday: 11 AM–6 PM Thursday–Saturday: 10 AM–10 PM For artwork inquiries, please email [email protected] or call 1 (242) 788-8827. #SpitWhiteLime #TheCurrentBahaMar #CurrentExhibition #BahamianArt #CaribbeanArt #StayCurrent

‼️🇧🇸 242 in the 212 🇺🇸‼️ A special moment bringing together Bahamian artists exhibiting across two neighboring booths at 1-54 NYC 2026 (@154artfair ). Represented by The Current at Booth 13 are Kendra Frorup and Maxwell Taylor, while Black Pony Gallery (@blackponygallery ) presents works by Dede Brown, Jason Bennett, and Tyrone Ferguson at Booth 15. It’s exciting to see Bahamian contemporary art represented so strongly within the fair this year — creating dialogue across generations, practices, and perspectives just one step away from each other. If you’re visiting 1-54 this weekend, be sure to stop by both booths and experience these incredible presentations. 📍1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair New York Starrett-Lehigh Building, Chelsea May 15–17 #154ArtFair #TheCurrentArt #BlackPonyGallery #BahamianArt #ContemporaryArt

1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair New York Starrett-Lehigh Building, Chelsea May 13–17 Booth 13 Kendra Frorup’s practice explores memory, materiality, and the sensory language of home through layered assemblage and sculptural forms. Drawing from the textures, flora, and cultural histories of The Bahamas, her works transform familiar objects into contemporary archives — carrying traces of labor, preservation, and lived experience. Featured as part of The Current’s presentation at 1-54 New York, Frorup’s work sits within broader conversations around diaspora, inheritance, and the evolving language of Caribbean contemporary art. We look forward to welcoming guests to Booth 13 today and tomorrow for the final days of the fair. #154ArtFair #154NewYork #KendraFrorup #ContemporaryArt #StayCurrent

We’re honored to be featured in a recent article by Seph Rodney for Hyperallergic spotlighting this year’s edition of 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair. The article highlights Kendra Frorup’s work A Light Sense (2022), presented by The Current: Baha Mar Gallery & Art Center at Booth 13, describing the piece as transforming the sugar apple from “specimen to jewel” within the Bahamian ecosystem. Thank you to Seph Rodney and Hyperallergic for including The Current within this important conversation around materiality, abstraction, and contemporary practices across Africa and its diaspora. #154ArtFair #TheCurrentArt #KendraFrorup #BahamianArt #ContemporaryArt StayCurrent
