This is EASILY the most exciting match to me going into Wrestlemania along with Naomi vs. Jade. The story here is so potent not just because it’s now getting personal, but also with the overarching theme of a true wrestler vs. a gimmicky catch-phrase guy. It’s a great representation of the everlasting conflict of interest between gaining casual fans and retaining hardcore fans. It’s really perfect for a Wrestlemania main event in all honesty. That segment where Jimmy ran the blade and Gunther just bathed in his blood while Jey watched on was also just cherry on the sundae. Also, the criticism that Jey is botchy is so annoying. Manami Toyota was a botch machine and she’s the greatest wrestler to ever grace a ring. Bring back the art of being messy in the ring because in reality, fights are not pretty. That’s why I can’t get behind a talent Logan Paul where everything just feels so practiced and meticulous. Jey throws mean punches, has recognizable moves, pops out with occasional surprising additions to his repertoire, and can sell like a bitch.
With that being said, I do think Gunther should win here in the context of the overarching theme of wrestler vs. entertainer. I think WWE should start putting emphasis on taking themselves and their sport seriously in some aspects. But if Jey wins I wouldn’t be mad because honestly this feels like the only time you could put a world title on Jey, whereas you can put the title back on Gunther whenever you want and no one would question it for a second. Either way, such a cool and surprising favorite for me. I was definitely frustrated with this following the Rumble but I really like the shock factor and ambiguity surrounding this feud/match!
I recently rewatched the 2024 and 2023 Women’s Royal Rumbles, and I think it’s worth noting the leaps and bounds between starpower in the two.
I know HHH gets hella shit for his lack of booking of the females in ratio with the males, which is completely valid, there’s so much left to be desired on weekly programming most weeks from the women because he fails to highlight them as much. However, watching the two subsequent Rumbles, it is clear that he has built a much more dynamic and deep women’s roster than the Vince era could ever have.
2023 was a solid match, but it was very boring in the middle because you had names like B-Fab, Dana Brooke, and Tegan Nox littering in all throughout the match. Not at all implying those talents aren’t good, they just simply aren’t built as women to keep an eye on or with interesting personalities/characters. The only real notable players in 2023 were Asuka, Liv, and Rhea, as highlighted by that all-timer ending sequence between the 3.
On the other hand, 2024 felt muchhhhh more filled to the brim with exciting, recognizable, and familiar women. Damage CTRL was at its strength with all 5 members, Becky Lynch was there, Bianca and Jade were clashing, Nia Jax and Piper Niven played their parts well, Naomi’s return was a perfect way to kick it off, a phenomenal Jordynne Grace introduction, etc. It was just so potent with star power and it felt like it didn’t have to rely much on legend returns or have the few top stars carrying the weight.
Again, it’s no secret that women could be doing so much more than they get the opportunity to in the fed. Women’s wrestling has become my favorite in the past few years since leaving this community, especially after doing research and watching legendary joshi matchups and hidden gems throughout darker eras in women’s wrestling. There’s still leaps and bounds of progress to be made, but there is something to be said about the progress made by the Paul Levesque Regime in relation to the WWE Women’s Division🤷🏼♂️Lmk what you think if anyone is still active here lmfaooo
Sometimes, WWE just hits it right on the spot, and that’s what happened in this match. But, it’s the fact that these things don’t happen all the time that makes this specific moment very special. I’ve said for awhile now that if Cody had stuck around in WWE for just a few more years, he would’ve become a huge ass star in WWE, but he took his own route and came back as a bigger star than WWE probably would have ever crafted out of him themselves. Amazing match with some great storytelling of its own. And even better, it leaves me asking the question of what Cody’s future will look like. I just feel bad for the superstars who have to follow the last two amazing matches😬
MOTN. I think we all distinctly remember when the SummerSlam incident between these two and how people reacted. This not only redeemed that squash match, but it made it a blessing in the sense of its long-term storytelling. The match was a perfect example of storytelling within the ring too. Constant roll-ups, frustration from Becky, Becky having an answer for everything Bianca has, until she pulls out one final, new, innovative reversal ftw. This that type of match that makes me unashamed about being such a nerd about this business. So fucking deserved for Bianca too man, watching her never gets old
This match was way better than I thought it’d be. Corbin and McIntyre are really two of the most tenacious workers in the industry right now and that shows through how much effort they put into this mid-card rivalry that could’ve very easily been half assed. The first kick out of the End of Days will make this match remembered for awhile, the match was solid, and the story was there, definitely got me pumped for the weekend
Good lord every time I come back to this community it just gets worse and worse. Do y’all even like wrestling anymore? KO resigned with WWE and the only way y’all justified it is that he must just be a family man doing what’s best for his family. Styles goes to NXT and he’s buried and at an all time low in his career? Vince makes an edgy joke but no that’s too far even though we want edgy WWE back? It’s not just WWE haters either, there’s lots of fallacies in WWE stan claims too. I’ve really enjoyed going back and watching shows from the past 2 years of when I was heavy into the IWC, and creating my own opinions on them otherwise than the narrative the IWC always has to put on them. I’ve been enjoying AEW more and WWE more. I miss conversing with people on here, but in the end, it’s not enjoyable enough anymore to be in this community. Stream CMIYGL and BALLADS, get some sun, stay safe, and spend a little less time overthinking wrestling and putting your energy into something more worthwhile. Cannot fuck with the performance of Magic New Wand.
Something was really off here :/ Makes me sad because it seemed like every woman had their moment in this match, and the idea of Bianca being a sole survivor is perfect, but it just wasn’t clicking. The crowd was not helping either, doing the wave and chanting CM Punk like tf??? Don’t be surprised if some of these girls booking changes after the way y’all mistreated them during their moments lmao. With that, Shotzi definitely needs some work in the PC. Her style is very entertaining, but it can be reckless and hard for the other girls to keep up with in the ring. No hate, just saying she needs some fine tuning. Toni, Bianca, and Liv definitely shined the most in this match though, so that’s something to take away from this.
Who the FUCK told these women they could go out there and put on an instant classic????? The fact that these two saw what was being said online and did the professional thing to make a story out of it to entertain says so much about the two women at the top of each roster. It says so much about the WWE Women’s roster as a whole. Say what you want about overpushing, but these two women always prove why they’re at the top of the company when it comes down to it. Great way to kick the show off!
Everything about Lashley’s run in the past year has been perfect. It’s crazy, either the RAW creative team put all of their creative energy into booking Lashley, or the pieces just fell into the right places, it has been booked to perfection. He ditched THB for a monster WWE Title run with MVP, made that entertaining as fuck and showed he could be a solid top star, he put over Big E in the best way possible, and now he’s feuding with Goldberg, and he has THB back. Something tells me Crown Jewel is gonna lowkey go hard this year, and I don’t think this match will take away from the PPV.
If you’re one of those people that gets mad when a big indie star gets to WWE and their gimmick is changed to WWE’s liking, then this rebrand is perfect news for you. Instead of finding already established stars from the indie scene, they’re going to make their own stars that they can mold to their liking. John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Batista, and more came from WWE’s OVW, it makes perfect sense why they want to try another run at something like that.
If you don’t like the current state of WWE, no one cares. Seriously, no one fucking asked. Nobody wants to hear your 5 paragraph essay on why Nikki’s character isn’t fun to watch, or how Shinsuke Nakamura deserves to be on top of the company. Wrestling should just be a fun thing to watch in your free time. No one should give a fuck about backstage politics, controversial booking decisions, or if a superstar is happy about the way they’re booked, because as fans and viewers, that’s not our responsibility. Just watch the fucking product and have fun.
Tyler, The Creator is undoubtedly one of the best talents of this generation. To hell with NBA Youngboy, Lil Tecca, and all those fake ass rappers, this mf appreciates the ART. He gets it. He gets what the fuck rap is. He doesn’t get lost in the clout, money, and bitches, he makes fucking music bruh. That is the reason I’ll always fucking idolize this mf. As for his music, he’s so fucking versatile. The production of Igor and Flower Boy, the consistent storylines, and the flow of CMIYGL and his early albums is unmatched. It’s cheesy as fuck to be idolizing a mf this much but goddamn, what’s there to not like?
