When COVID hit, it was a blessing in disguise. I recalibrated in a way; finished the last year of my degree; and started a fundraiser making custom made masks- donating all the proceeds to BLM Edmonton Chapter.
My point is, when your back is against the wall, be proactive and not reactive to the circumstances of your environment.
Ain’t no manual to life when the world is yours….your best weapon is adaptation.
This book is honestly special, and needed.
It goes into the history of Eritrea and Ethiopia, and my fathers personal journey to taking up arms for Eritrea.
What really stands out is how he was moving. At one point, he’s officially working under the Imperial Ethiopian government (2nd pic)… but at the same time, he’s secretly involved with the Eritrean Liberation Front.
Then when the Derg regime starts hunting down Eritreans, everything shifts. He barely makes it out (3rd pic), escaping with his best friend Tewolde, rest in peace.
After that, it’s no more in-between. He fully commits and takes up arms for Eritrea’s independence alongside his brother.
It’s history but somehow doesn’t feel too distant. The scars are still there, both physically and emotionally, yet there’s a quiet sense of healing is in its undertone.
