Meet Our 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 Workshop Instructor Ryan Adkins        The Team: that dinner thing: that dinner thing started 4 years ago as a monthly NYC supper club where tickets are sold in pairs, so you have an excuse to invite your neighbor, that person you always see getting coffee, or a new crush. since then, we’ve expanded to wine bar pop-ups, product partnerships, and now workshops—always centered around bringing people together through food. Instructor: Ryn Adkins (they/them): that dinner thing’s culinary lead, is never not thinking about dinner. they have a deep knowledge of seasonal ingredients, bring new life to classics, and lead with highly intuitive taste. with 10+ years cooking for others, this workshop shares how they’ve built confidence with knife skills and how they prep for up to 50 people at a time.       Date: April 5   Time: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM         Location: Playground: 1114 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11216         Cost: $50, $60, $70  Capacity: 24            Handle With Care       Before cooking any meal—there’s the cut. a knife is the first tool that transforms food. Handle With Care is a gentle introduction to knife skills as the foundation of cooking. this workshop helps you get comfortable with your knife while expanding how you prepare food to be more delicious and visually appealing. plus, it’s an impressive skill to have when cooking for others—we know from experience. In order to make sure this workshop will be useful to you, please bring:   • your own knife (if you’re looking to purchase one check out @cultflav for recommendations)  • your own cutting board, any material works (check out @cultflav for this too)  • a dish / tea towel (to carry your knife + for cleanup)  you will take home with you:  • new knife skills  • all the vegetables you practice cutting  • a that dinner thing broth to use at home  • a recipe card to keep    follow their work at @thatdinnerthing     Questions?         Please reach out to Maddi Minicozzi at [email protected]

“big two” knife type education…rounding out with german knives. one of our favorites include @wusthof 🧬made from softer steel, the edge is tougher and less likely to chip but will require more upkeep 🔪 blade often has a curved edge designed to be used in a rocking motion ✋most have a thick metal guard between the blade and handle so slightly heavier and protects the fingers 🏆best for heavy duty tasks like breaking down a chicken and “rocking” tasks like mincing herbs or vegetables but can be used for everything 🤓come learn about knives and how to use yours at our handle with care: knife skills 101 workshop on apr 5 (6pm, @playgroundbk ). tix in bio at playground website under “workshops”. sliding scale prices avail.

“big two” knife type education…starting with japanese knives. one of our favorites include @shuncutlery 🧬made from high carbon steel, will be sharp for a long time but is more brittle and prone to chipping 🔪 blade is often flatter with a pointier tip for straight down and forward cutting and cut to a very acute 10-15 degree angle ✋little to no bolster between blade and handle so lighter and easier to sharpen 🏆best for precise slicing and delicate work but we use for everything 🤓come learn about knives and how to use yours at our handle with care: knife skills 101 workshop on apr 5 (6pm, @playgroundbk ). tix in bio at playground website under “workshops”. sliding scale prices avail.
