I am excited to share another evolution in the Island of Nod. It's a post-apocalyptic virtual island, built in Unreal Engine 5. My biggest inspirations? The Last of Us and the Annihilation book series, Both capture that haunting beauty of abandoned spaces being slowly reclaimed by nature. The focus this time was procedural road generation. Building roads across kilometers of terrain isn't realistic for a solo artist. Hand placing every modular piece, every road sign, every variation across multiple kilometers would take forever. So instead you design rules. You define the conditions for when each road variation should appear, on a slope, in a tunnel, around a sharp turn, passing through a biome. The road then handles how it wants to express itself as the ground changes underneath. Exciting news to share! My video piece, "Breadth," is currently projected on the walls of the Czong Institute for Contemporary Art Museum as part of the Nature 2024 Exhibition. "NATURE 2024" at @cicamuseum embraces various art forms—photography, painting, sculpture, installation, new media, and video—that delve into the intricate relationships between humanity and the natural world. I'm thrilled to be part of this exploration! "Breadth" was born from a profoundly claustrophobic period during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown inside a compact studio apartment in the heart of New York City. It reflects my yearning for vast open spaces while grappling with feelings of fear and uncertainty. What began as a virtual escape evolved organically into narrative, a journey through storms, turbulence, and ultimate rebirth. In this film, the violent, uncontrollable storm plays the part of our uncertain times. Yet, it's also a catalyst for change, leading to a new dawn and fresh beginnings. Through "Breadth," I've tried to encapsulate the complexity of emotions, the dance between confinement and liberation, fear and hope, chaos and renewal, a theme that I hope resonates with our shared human experience.
