The solo exhibition has started at Rohan in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, since March 8th. It marks the 14th year since I began my journey in pottery, and this is my very first solo exhibition. On one hand, it feels like it has taken quite a long time, but on the other hand, I believe it has taken exactly as long as it needed to. Over the years, I have had the privilege of immersing myself in various environments in places such as Tokyo, Sweden, Denmark, Karatsu, and Shigaraki, where I’ve engaged with design, craft, regional pottery, and contemporary art in ceramics, following my curiosity and interests.
Creating object, not just in pottery, but in any medium, is a deeply personal journey where an artist’s themes, knowledge, skills, and materials come together to form a unique expression. Time is limited, and what artists choose to absorb along the way is a series of decisions. The works artists create are the results of those decisions. Absorption, understanding, reflection, and creation are repeated cycles, shaping the course of an artist’s career.
For me, to reach the ideal works I had vaguely envisioned, I had to spend the majority of my twenties absorbing, understanding, and reflecting. Only in my thirties did my ideal begin to align with the works I was making. It was at this point that Mr. Suzuki from Rohan invited me to hold this exhibition.
Though my process of absorption, understanding, reflection, and creation will continue, I hope that you can take a moment to experience the works that encapsulate nearly a decade of my journey as an artist.
